LOS ANGELES (July 9, 2020) – The Pearl Hotel, operated by brand and hospitality management firm Casetta Group, reemerges as San Diego’s newest urban retreat and social hub following substantial renovations. Newly redesigned to celebrate the boutique hotel’s 1960s aesthetic paired with Casetta’s philosophy of sustainability without compromising style, The Pearl Hotel welcomes guests with refurbished guest rooms, lobby and public spaces along with an updated dining experience at onsite restaurant, Charles + Dinorah.
“For more than 60 years, The Pearl Hotel has been an integral part of San Diego’s Point Loma neighborhood,” said Carolyn Schneider, president and partner of Casetta Group. “The Casetta team is dedicated to celebrating properties with rich histories, and we’re extremely grateful for the opportunity to share The Pearl through its reimagined spaces and one-of-a-kind experiences.”
Architecture and design firm Electric Bowery worked with Casetta to renovate the public spaces of The Pearl Hotel, maintaining mid-century California inspiration and a relaxed, San Diego coastal vibe within a refreshed palette. The iconic oyster-shaped pool remains at the center of the property with updated outdoor furnishings for dining, cabanas and landscaping. In the lobby, a custom Italian-inspired leather sectional frames the entirety of the space with glowing glass pendants, jewel-toned accents and marble bistro tables defining the lounge seating. Changes to the lounge & bar areas include new custom lighting and furniture. A crystal green quartzite bar top, handmade ceramic tile at the bar die wall and custom walnut millwork bring a moody, earthy tone to the interior space.
Curated and reconfigured by San Diego-based Human Kind Design Studio (formerly Pow Wow Design Studio), each of The Pearl Hotel’s 23 guest rooms boasts neutral tones, honest materials and organic textures such as linen drapery, slab cotton headboards, cane back chairs, handcrafted ceramic lamps, and flat-woven rugs in shades of sand, ivory, brown and taupe. Walls washed in white create a bright, airy atmosphere while an open-concept closet adds a visual element. Solid wood furnishings, such as floating Acacia wood nightstands, and vintage art act as statement pieces, effortlessly combining the understated cool of Point Loma with a contemporary take on mid-century style. As a nod to the hotel’s name, the in-room artwork pays homage to the remarkable female ama pearl divers known to hold their breath underwater for extended periods of time while harvesting oysters.
In line with Casetta’s ongoing commitment to eco-friendly travel, guest rooms are outfitted with Parachute bedding and bath linens, certified organic bath amenities by MoonCloth Designs, and custom-designed Finery bathrobes. Among other guest amenities are Ocean Bottle reusable water bottles, made in part from ocean-bound recycled materials, and Roen x Casetta 001 candles created with an exclusive blend of coconut wax.
Named after the hotel’s former husband-wife owners dating back to the 1960s, Charles + Dinorah channels the era’s culture of good times along with an adventurous yet approachable food & drink experience for locals and travelers alike. Menu highlights include the signature Pearl Burger, Breaded Eggplant Tikka Masala and Grilled Octopus. Among notable cocktails are the Mother of Pearl—made with Pearl Vodka, Greenbar Fruitlab Hibiscus, Giffard Pamplemousse, lemon and egg white—and the Time is on My Side, a reposado and Aperol-based cocktail with Angostura and grapefruit bitters. The newly renovated restaurant, lounge, poolside deck and private event spaces can be transformed for any indoor or outdoor occasion including weddings, birthdays and small group gatherings for up to 150 people. Charles + Dinorah is open from 4 to 10 p.m. Monday-Saturday with Happy Hour from 4 to 6 p.m.
