September 20, 2017 (PALM SPRINGS, CALIF.) – Colony Palms Hotel in Palm Springs, part of Mosaic Hotel Group (MHG), a California-based collection of boutique, curated hotels, has announced the appointment of Karen Smith as director of sales & marketing. Arriving at the hotel with more than 20 years of experience at luxury resorts and select service hotels across the United States, Smith oversees all sales and marketing efforts for the newly renovated property. Leading the onsite team, Smith is responsible for identifying trends, pinpointing sales targets, and creating innovative strategies to drive occupancy, draw group clientele and increase revenues at the iconic property of downtown Palm Springs.

Prior to arriving at Colony Palms Hotel, Smith previously held an independent sales consultant role with client hotels, including Omni Berkshire Place in Manhattan, New York; Renaissance Montgomery Hotel & Spa at the Convention Center in Montgomery, Alabama; Grand Hotel Marriott Resort, Golf Club & Spa in Fairhope, Alabama; Crowne Plaza Orlando – Universal Blvd. in Orlando, Florida; and The Lodge and Spa at Callaway Gardens in Atlanta, Georgia. Previously, she held a range of sales-related positions for luxury properties including national group sales manager for the Parker Palm Springs, director of foreign dignitary and Middle Eastern sales for Four Seasons Hotel Houston and group sales manager for the Hilton Americas-Houston.

An active and engaged hospitality professional, Smith has brought her experience and acumen in service to a number of industry associations over the years, including dynamic membership in Sister Cities International, Greater Houston Partnership, Business Travel Association, Meeting Planners International, Religious Conference Managers Association, among others. She also served as President of Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association and Vice President of the Michigan Hotel and Resort Association.

Beyond Smith's professional life, she can be found traveling the world from South Africa to Australia to the Caribbean.
