SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – (Jan. 7, 2016) – As the future Embassy Suites by Hilton Resort Scottsdale continues its $22-million transformation, a new executive management team is already creating buzz about Scottsdale’s newest downtown resort. The hotel, currently known as Chapparal Suites Scottsdale, is located at the northeast corner of Scottsdale and Chaparral Roads.
“Each member of the executive team has extensive hospitality experience they’ve gathered all over the U.S. and the world,” said Markus Kohn, regional director of operations, Crescent Hotels and Resorts. “Our goal is to transform every aspect of the hotel leveraging all of that knowledge, from building elegant and comfortable rooms and beautiful and relaxing outdoor areas to providing world-class services, amenities and food.”
Executive Team Members
Alan Klein, General Manager Alan Klein, nearly a Scottsdale native and upstanding member of the Scottsdale community, has successfully led multiple hotels and major hotel transformations. With more than 24 years of hospitality experience in all phases of operations and all levels of management, Klein has proven results such as increased profitability, improved employee and guest satisfaction, and creating new revenue streams. Past turnarounds include the Westward Look Wyndham Grand Resort & Spa in Tucson, the Saguaro in Old Town Scottsdale, and Monterey Beach Resort in California. Klein is active in his community and has served as the former Chair of the Southern Arizona Lodging and Resort Association, Board Director of Visit Tucson, Board Director on the Arizona Lodging and Tourism Association, Board Director of the Valley Hotel and Resort Association and is currently a Board Director of the Scottsdale Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Todd Muilenburg, Director of Sales and Marketing Todd Muilenberg has an exceptional history working with three-, four-, and five-diamond hotels and resorts. His decade of experience includes working in sales and marketing for locations such as the Renaissance Glendale Hotel and Spa, Resort Suites, and Fairmont Scottsdale. His career also includes leading the sales and marketing for hotels within both the Marriott and Embassy Suites brands. Currently, with Embassy Suites by Hilton Resort Scottsdale, Muilenburg is responsible for maintaining and building the hotel’s clientele and brand image.
John du Toit, Executive Chef Executive Chef John du Toit drives the culinary direction for all food and beverage services at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Resort Scottsdale, from overseeing the hotel’s full-service restaurant to creating custom catering menus for private events. Originally from Patagonia, Arizona, du Toit blends cuisines from his global experiences with his Southwestern heritage to create dishes that are uniquely local, surprising and satisfying. Chef du Toit has earned both local and national recognition, including an accolade from the New York Times as an accomplished pastry chef, and was winner of the “Southwestern Plate of Excellence” award from the American Culinary Foundation.
Hotel Opening in Spring 2016 The entirely transformed Embassy Suites by Hilton Resort Scottsdale will include 312 updated elegant guest suites, all of which feature two rooms or more. The redesigned lobby, exterior, landscaping and pools are all part of the 15-acre renovation, providing multiple locations for weddings, social events or peaceful relaxation. The existing restaurants will also be completely reimagined by Chef du Toit to include a wine bar and fresh, exciting dining choices.
