Miami Beach, Florida – October 15, 2015 –Shelborne Wyndham Grand South Beach today announced the appointment of Amaury Piedra as general manager. In this role, Piedra will be responsible for the hotel’s overall success through the management of staff and day-to-day hotel operations.
Piedra, who has nearly 20 years of luxury hospitality experience, has held managerial positions at AAA Four Diamond-rated lifestyle hotels, convention hotels of more than 1,000 rooms and multi-unit oceanfront resorts throughout the U.S. and the Caribbean. He joins Shelborne Wyndham Grand from his previous role as complex general manager for Westin Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort & Spa and Sheraton Fort Lauderdale Beach Hotel.

Previously, Piedra served as general manager at W South Beach. He has also served as resort manager for Westin Hotels & Resorts and Sheraton Hotels at Our Lucaya in Grand Bahamas Island. Additionally, Piedra was previously the Chairperson for Fort Lauderdale Beach Business Improvement District, and formed part of the Marketing Committee for Broward Convention and Visitor Bureau.
Located in the heart of South Beach, the iconic Shelborne hotel reopened its doors in September 2014 after an extensive facelift, which included upgrades such as completely redone guest rooms designed by Richard Mishaan; an apothecary-themed “drawing room” where the historic lobby once stood; a library lounge; a transformed entrance; more flexible indoor and outdoor meeting spaces; and a new Blue Harmony® Spa, designed by Meg Sharpe. The property’s rich history dates back to 1940s when the new hotel was a celebrity hotspot. Design master Morris Lapidus updated the hotel in the 1950s.
