Oct. 02–Plans to build a new Hampton Inn hotel on the west side of Fergus Falls are no longer in the works, hotel owner Brian Patel confirmed Tuesday.
Brian and Vibha Patel are owners of 14 Hampton Inn hotels across the Midwest. Last fall, they purchased the lots along Western Avenue on the west side of Fergus Falls near Interstate 94. Brian Patel originally hoped construction would begin last March.
The Patels still own the property, according to Harold Stanislawski, executive director of the Fergus Falls Economic Development Commission.
“He’s made his decision based on factors that were important to him,” Stanislawski said. “What we want to do is we want to work with Brian and find another use for the property.”
In July, Brian Patel said they still planned to build, but work would just be delayed a couple of months. The Patels were focused on building a $6.5 million Hampton Inn and Suites in Jamestown, N.D. It’s a facility which includes 90 rooms ranging from suites to smaller single rooms, according to a story in the Jamestown Sun. The project was completed this summer.
Last October, Brian Patel said he chose Fergus Falls to build a Hampton Inn due to the proximity to Fargo, where he and his wife reside, and the fact that Fergus Falls is a smaller community.
“We’re sorry it couldn’t happen at this time,” Stanislawski said. “There’s a number of reasons why he probably didn’t move forward.”
The newest hotel in Fergus Falls is the AmericInn, which was constructed in 1995.
Brian Patel could not be reached for further comment Tuesday.
