TOKYO, Japan and MCLEAN, Va. – Hilton (NYSE: HLT) today announced that the company entered into a management agreement with Mitsubishi Estate Co., Ltd. scheduled to open Hilton Okinawa Miyako Island Resort in 2023. Constructed by Mitsubishi Estate and Kajima Corporation, this will be Hilton’s first property on Miyako Island, located approximately 300km southwest from Okinawa’s main island.
Hilton Okinawa Miyako Island Resort will join Hilton’s portfolio of six hotels in Okinawa presently operating under two brands, including Hilton Hotels & Resorts and DoubleTree by Hilton.
Known for its clear blue waters and home to the popular Yonaha Maehama Beach, Miyako Island is a popular resort destination among Japanese locals. Located on the waterfront close to the photogenic Irabu Bridge that connects the islands of Miyako and Irabu, facilities offered by the new-built 329-room hotel include restaurants, fitness amenities, meeting and function spaces, as well as a banquet hall, swimming pool, spa, chapel and an executive lounge and ocean-view rooftop bar.
“We are delighted to be partnering with Mitsubishi Estate for the Hilton Okinawa Miyako Island Resort,” said Guy Phillips, senior vice president, development, Asia & Australasia, Hilton. “With Miyakojima’s growing popularity as a tourism destination for both domestic and international travellers, we look forward to welcoming more guests to the island and creating more memorable experiences for them.”
Over the years, Okinawa has become an increasingly popular tourist destination for those seeking a tropical beach vacation in Japan. The Miyako Shimojishima Airport Terminal was also opened in March 2019, offering both international and domestic flights, further enhancing the accessibility and popularity of Miyako Island.
“We signed a management agreement with Mitsubishi Estate for our first property on one of the outlying islands of Okinawa — the sixth Hilton property in Okinawa Prefecture, including those in the pipeline,” said Timothy Soper, vice president, operations, Japan, Korea and Micronesia, Hilton. “We look forward to welcoming guests to Miyako Island with the outstanding Hilton hospitality that we have been known for over the past century.”
“We are thrilled to announce the signing of Hilton Okinawa Miyako Island Resort, in partnership with Hilton,” said Yuji Fujioka, senior executive officer, Mitsubishi Estate Co., Ltd. “The property underlines our commitment in nurturing the development of Miyako Island and Okinawa Prefecture by promoting both domestic and international tourism. With the expertise and resources of Mitsubishi Estate, Kajima Corporation and Hilton, we look forward to providing guests with an exceptional experience in Miyako Island.”
