A charming escape minutes from DC, Hotel Heron invites guests to discover a budding travel destination
Alexandria, Virginia (January 31, 2024) – Hotel Heron, set to open its doors in spring 2024 in the heart of Old Town Alexandria is now accepting reservations. Offering a new vantage point to explore one of America’s most storied cities, Hotel Heron invites travelers to experience the charm of the nationally designated historic district through the lens of the re-imagined hotel.
Steps away from King Street Mile and Alexandria’s waterfront, Hotel Heron is one of the city’s most iconic examples of Colonial Revival architecture. Taking residence in the former George Mason Hotel, the adaptive reuse seamlessly blends the historic landmark with an adjacent new building, housing guest rooms, various food and beverage outlets and a selection of meeting and event spaces.
Led by DC-based architects Antonovich Associates and the interior design team at Streetsense, the project pays homage to the rich heritage of Old Town while creating timeless spaces that foster a sense of community for both locals and visitors. Mid-Atlantic design elements and a rich color scheme weave a cohesive thread from the public spaces to guest rooms. Contemporary furniture sourced from local partners such as Austin Morris Furniture create a beautiful juxtaposition against the historic architecture.
The hotel boasts 134 guest rooms spanning both the original Prince building and the Washington building. Classic and deluxe accommodations showcase a delicate balance between architectural intricacies and modern comforts, plus stunning views of Alexandria and select furnished outdoor terraces. The hotel also offers over 3,500 square feet of indoor meeting and events space between The Assembly Rooms and The Heritage Ballroom, with flexible outdoor options available. Rounding out the amenities is a collection of food and beverage offerings, including a hearth-inspired restaurant featuring Mid-Atlantic cuisine, a cozy cocktail bar and the city’s first seasonal rooftop bar, plus a library and state-of-the-art fitness center. Whether seeking a tranquil space for relaxation or a vibrant hub in the midst of it all, Hotel Heron sets the stage for unique and memorable experiences at every visit.
“Our team is thrilled to begin welcoming guests to Hotel Heron and be their guides in exploring Old Town Alexandria,” says Phillip Blane, General Manager of Hotel Heron. “Alexandria has been a burgeoning tourism destination and we are excited to be a part of the city’s resurgence.”
To celebrate the opening of the hotel, travelers are invited to find their flock at Hotel Heron with an exclusive opening offer, including complimentary cocktails at the city’s only rooftop bar.
