As Southeast Regional Vice President of Sales, Chaffin will introduce the RoamBOOST Distributed Antenna System to hotels looking to solve in-building cellular coverage problems

BOSTON, MASS. – AUGUST 11, 2015 – Hospitality industry veteran John Chaffin is shifting his focus from selling mobile key solutions and guestroom access control systems to campaigning for improving the cellular infrastructures of hotels across the Southeast. As newly appointed Regional Vice President of Sales for RoamBOOST, Chaffin is looking forward to the challenge of solving in-building cellular coverage problems once and for all. The RoamBOOST Distributed Antenna System (DAS) distributes cell signals throughout the entire property or in targeted areas, such as the lobby, guestrooms, conference space, and back of house offices. Guests and staff will immediately see improvement in their phone’s signal strength, and hotels will see an improvement in satisfaction scores and social media reviews.

“With reliance on mobile connectivity at an all-time high, hotels can no longer ignore problems with inadequate cell signal coverage,” Chaffin said. “Hoteliers will need to develop network infrastructures that balance both Wi-Fi and cellular (3G voice and 4G/LTE Data) to meet the needs of today’s tech savvy travelers. Additionally, building materials are becoming more and more energy efficient; however, many of those same materials either absorb or reflect RF signals. The need for reliable indoor cellular service goes well beyond guest and staff usage. Whether you’re retrofitting an existing hotel or building new, adding a professionally engineered RoamBOOST DAS system in areas where coverage is weak or nonexistent will immediately eliminate guest complaints, improve guest loyalty, and provide for a safe and reliable cellular infrastructure. RoamBOOST provides a sophisticated infrastructure that we simplify by breaking it down into a step-by-step process. We assist customers every step of the way, defining what to expect before, during and after install. Unfortunately, many hoteliers are not even aware that a solution like RoamBOOST is available.”

“This is a unique opportunity to address a very real need that many hotels will be faced with in the near future,” he said. “Having been in the hospitality industry for more than 25 years — both as a vendor and a manager of hotels — will help me meet this challenge head on. I’m excited to take on this new role and join the RoamBOOST team.”

Chaffin began his hospitality career in 1987 with Marriott International Inc., serving in front-office, assistant general manager, and director of sales roles. He further developed his sales experience working for GE Capital ResCom, AT&T Corp. and Visual Edge Systems before embarking on a 12-year sales stint with ASSA ABLOY Hospitality as Regional Sales Manager. Chaffin left ASSA ABLOY in 2009 to join INNCOM International (now INNCOM by Honeywell) as Director of Sales, and in 2010 he was recruited by MIWA Lock Co. Ltd. to head its sales team as Vice President of Sales. Prior to joining RoamBOOST, Chaffin served as Senior Director of Sales for technology start-up Y!kes LLC.

Operating from his office in Palm Beach County, Florida, Chaffin will report directly to RoamBOOST Vice President of Commercial Sales Sarah Smith.

“We are thrilled that John is now part of the RoamBOOST family, not just for his sales experience and extensive contacts, but because he is intricately familiar with today’s most in-demand mobile technologies,” Smith said. “He has worked with many hotels implementing mobile strategies — including mobile key programs — and knows firsthand that these mobile guest-engagement tools won’t work if there isn’t a cell signal to support them. John is the ideal person to campaign for adding DAS to hotels — whether it’s just in one area or across the property, indoors and outdoors. We are thrilled to have him join us and continue the explosive growth of RoamBoost.”

In the short-term, Chaffin will be focused on educating hoteliers on the benefits of implementing a carrier neutral infrastructure to provide reliable mobile calling, data transactions and communications. In the not-so-distant future, 2G networks will no longer be supported by the mobile carriers, and the focus will be on implementing the far superior voice and data capabilities of 3G and 4G/LTE. In the long term, Chaffin said he hopes to grow RoamBOOST to be the preferred vendor and the No. 1 DAS provider in the industry.
