The first luxury resort from a global brand to open in the country, Mahogany Bay Resort & Beach Club is being built from the ground up on the picturesque Caribbean island of Ambergris Caye, Belize. Set on 60-acres and nestled in a grove of tropical foliage, the resort is designed for those seeking relaxed adventure. At the helm of this new luxurious Belizean experience is industry icon General Manager, Niklaus Leuenberger and veteran sales expert, Edward Donaldson as director of sales & marketing. With nearly 50 years of combined hospitality expertise, Leuenberger and Donaldson will spearhead the resorts December opening.

Over the course of 19 years, Leuenberger has served as General Manager for The Peninsula Hotels in Philippines, Hong Kong, and New York. He has a proven track record of bringing strong financial returns and continuous brand development to his hotels. Leuenberger was also Managing Director of The New York Palace Hotel, and most recently he held the position as Senior Vice President of Resort Operations of Baha Mar Casino & Hotel in Nassau, Bahamas.

Guests of Mahogany Bay will have full access to a wide array of amenities including the Bay Club with a grand pool and bar and the private, white sand Beach Club, just a short boat ride from the on-site marina. The property’s focal point will be a 22,000-square foot Great House featuring a signature restaurant and bar, 8,000-sq. ft. of event space, the largest in Belize, plus a wrap-around covered veranda.

A seasoned hospitality industry veteran with 30 years of global leisure and luxury sales experience, Ed Donaldson has worked with some of the world’s best-known hotel brands. Prior to joining the Mahogany Bay executive team, Donaldson was the Director of Sales & Marketing for Rosewood Hotels & Resorts’ Tucker's Point in Bermuda. During his tenure there, he spearheaded strategic plans which led to a boost in occupancies. Donaldson accomplished this by capitalizing on, and expanding relationships with group and incentive travel suppliers. He also leveraged his expertise in digital marketing and SEO, public relations, and partnership opportunities to further broaden the hotel’s exposure.
