VENICE, Italy (July 23, 2018) – JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa has announced the appointment of Markos Tzamalis as the resort's new General Manager. In his role, Tzamalis oversees all the day-to-day operations of the luxury private island resort located on Isola delle Rose in Venice, Italy.
Tzamalis brings a wealth of luxury hospitality experience to his role as General Manager. He arrived at JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa from the Sheraton Rhodes Resort, where he was the General Manager for four years and consistently delivered results that contributed to the property's success.
Prior to his position as General Manager, Tzamalis held a range of management positions at various hotel properties around the world including as Director of Operations Mediterranean & Africa for Grace Hotels; the Multi-Property General Manager for Starwood at Vedema, a Luxury Collection Resort; and Mystique, a Luxury Collection Hotel, both on the island of Santorini, Greece; as well as Hotel Manager for the Vedema property, which he reopened following a one-million euro renovation in 2008.
Other positions contributing to Tzamalis' experience include Hotel Manager at Sani Asterias Suites, a five-star, privately owned boutique hotel in Halkidiki, Greece; and Food & Beverage Supervisor at the Hyatt Regency Thessaloniki City Resort Hotel, also in Greece. He got his start in hospitality in 1995 as Manager, Bars & Restaurants of Hard Rock Café in Manila.
Tzamalis is a graduate of Les Roches Hotel Management School in Bluche, Switzerland, and also completed the General Manager Program at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.
