Dec. 04–A Marriot Renaissance hotel and conference center will be built in Westerville, according to city officials.

The $32 million project will be located between Cleveland Avenue and Africa Road just south of Polaris Parkway in Westar Place, which was formerly known as the Altair Business Park.

The eight-story hotel will have 224 rooms and a restaurant as well as 20,000 square feet of meeting space.

Westerville purchased the 62-acre Altair site for $16.2 million earlier this year. Westar Place is part of the 941-acre Westar Business District of Westerville. There are already several businesses located in the Westar Business District, while the Marriot Renaissance is the first project in Westar Place.

City officials say Westar Place will eventually add 3,000 jobs to the area.

Concord Hospitality will build the hotel and conference center, with construction expected to start in 2015. A completion date has not been set.

The city also announced that Continental Realty will be the development consultant and broker for Westair.

“Westar Place is going to be the ideal complement to the Medical Mile and we are very excited about the opportunities presented to the community with Concord’s Renaissance project,” said Westerville City Manager David Collinsworth.
