ANCHORAGE, AK – December 16, 2021 – Marriott Anchorage Downtown announces the completion of its top-to-bottom renovation that includes a total transformation of guest rooms, public spaces, dining outlets and function space. Associate and guest safety continues to remain paramount during the pandemic with current guidelines located here.
Owned and managed by Columbia Sussex, the Marriott Anchorage Downtown is extremely popular for groups of all sizes and leisure travelers visiting Anchorage as a destination or launching Alaskan expeditions from the central city. The hotel is located in the heart of Anchorage’s downtown district – just steps away from a wide variety of restaurants, nightlife and entertainment destinations, including the Dena’ina Civic and Convention Center, and a short drive from the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport. The hotel is popular for its flexible meeting and event spaces that accommodate groups ranging anywhere from five to 500 people and is known for its rich history hosting dignitaries, government officials and celebrities – including serving as the venue for the recent inauguration of Anchorage Mayor Dave Bronson.
The hotel’s comprehensive renovations feature an aesthetic inspired by the interplay between the natural beauty of the great Alaskan outdoors with the dynamic metropolitan lifestyle of Alaska’s most populous city. Public spaces and guestrooms take advantage of the stunning mountain and city views with expansive windows generously placed to allow natural light to fill the property. Artwork and furnishings complement the focus on the natural landscapes, featuring neutral color palettes with pops of bright blue and grey hues, juxtaposing natural wood and leather materials with contemporary designs and thoughtfully-curated artistic focal points.
Marriott Anchorage Downtown has implemented a number of health guidelines and safety measures to allow people to feel comfortable traveling, including the option for an entirely contactless stay, social events designed to allow for social distancing, restrictions on fitness center capacity, housekeeping access to guest rooms, and thorough cleaning and sanitation protocols throughout the property that follow Marriott International’s Commitment to Clean standards.

The renovations at Marriott Anchorage Downtown included:
Guest Rooms
All 392 guest rooms, including the McKinley, Talkeetna and Susitna suites – each named for a distinct Alaskan town or landmark – have been renovated to reflect the new design philosophy using earthy tones with complementing blue and grey palettes, coupled with a contemporary and upscale twist reflecting the Marriott brand’s comfortable, modern aesthetic. Each guestroom features stunning mountain views, including the Chugach Mountain Range and Mt. Denali, with large-format windows to allow guests to fully enjoy the surrounding landscape.
The complete redesign of the hotel’s guest rooms included the appointment of entirely new furniture and furnishings. Updates to the guest rooms include thoughtful touches and elements reflective of the Alaskan topography, such as the placement in each room of an abstract canvas painting inspired by the immense vistas of glaciers and Northern Lights.
Additionally, each luxurious guest room is designed for optimal rest and productivity with architectural framing, contrasting finishes and thoughtful solutions to enhance a guest’s stay, such as:
- Convenient wall outlets, lamp outlets and nightstands outfitted with USB ports for multiple electronic devices
- Luxurious bedding with cotton-rich linens and fluffy pillows
- High-speed Wi-Fi and a large desk with a well-lit workspace, comfortable chair and plug-in panels
- 55-inch flat-panel TVs with the Marriott Entertainment Package, including premium cable and movie channels to keep guests well-entertained

Upon entering Marriott Anchorage Downtown, guests are immediately greeted by an entirely transformed ground floor with a redesigned lobby, addition of Marriott’s signature Greatroom and revitalization of the popular breakfast dining outlet Promenade Café.
The lobby has been designed as an immersive experience for guests to immediately connect with Alaskan culture, featuring unique works of art with wall hangings including salmon brushed metal artwork and framed Native Alaskan parkas. In addition to the natural light flooding the lobby area, dynamic light displays create visual reminders of the Northern Lights.
Beyond the lobby, the Greatroom areas, located on the lobby level, are a highlight and hub of activity for guests. There is 3,500 square feet of lounging space to fit a variety of guest needs from morning until night. Features designed to make guests feel at home in the new Greatroom include communal tables, charging stations, contemporary soft seating arrangements and flat-screen TVs. The Greatroom offers lunch and dinner service, featuring American cuisine, as well as beverage service, including locally brewed beers and craft spirits.
Serving breakfast daily, on-site Promenade Café has undergone a full redesign to align with a more modern aesthetic featuring updated menus. Guests can enjoy comfortable seating areas in booths and oversized plush chairs with unique lighting and visual elements throughout. The restaurant’s updated menu focuses on fresh, locally-sourced ingredients to create offerings such as reindeer sausage and salmon lox.
