SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – August 2017 – Jose Gonzalez-Espinosa, General Manager of San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino, has been named Area General Manager for Puerto Rico. In his new position, Gonzalez will continue in his role as General Manager at the 527-room San Juan Marriott Resort, while also overseeing The Ritz-Carlton, San Juan and Sheraton San Juan. He will also act as the liaison to Marriott International franchise partners and will work with area and market organizations and Marriott’s Business Council leader to maximize market performance.
“Jose has a proven track record with Marriott, and his performance these past two years in Puerto Rico has continued to showcase his leadership and ability to continuously meet and exceed performance goals and expectations,” stated Steve Contos, Senior Vice President – Caribbean & Luxury Portfolio Latin America. “His keen understanding of not only Puerto Rico, but the Caribbean and Latin America as a whole, allows him to look at a bigger picture and tap into his experience throughout the region, subsequently bring that insight to San Juan.”
Under Gonzalez’s direction, the San Juan Marriott Resort received Marriott’s 2016 Sales Excellence Award for proactively establishing strategies to find new source markets and segments, while overseeing and successfully implementing various marketing and brand initiatives.
Prior to joining the team at the San Juan Marriott, Gonzalez served as the General Manager at JW Marriott Caracas and as Country Manager for Venezuela, where he provided strategic leadership for three properties, achieving total revenue of over $106 million per year. Under his leadership, Marriott’s Venezuela properties increased their GSS score by 8 points and Associate Engagement by 5.4 points.

Gonzalez graduated with a degree in Hotel Management in Germany and has perfected his hospitality skills by working in 11 different countries around the globe, including Brazil, Costa Rica, England and Germany.
