Palma de Mallorca, October 12, 2017 ā Melia Hotels International announced the signature and imminent opening of the MeliĆ” Iguazu, the only hotel located in the heart of Iguazu National Park in Argentina, considered one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World and World Heritage site by UNESCO. The hotel is the only hotel with panoramic views of the famous āDevil's Throat,ā and provides the company with a unique opportunity to become a global benchmark in this travel destination.
Previously managed by another international hotel group, MeliĆ” Hotels International welcomed the property into the family on September 30. In 2018 the property will undergo renovations to take on the characteristics and features of the MeliĆ” Hotels & Resorts brand. The hotel offers 169 guests rooms along with a wide range of dining facilities (including one takeaway area), swimming pools, a spa, a gym, children's play areas and meeting and event spaces. The hotel also has a Visitor Center focused on the enhancement of the natural environment of Iguazu.
The Iguazu Falls are 23 kilometres from the mouth of the Iguazu river and are comprised of more than 270 waterfalls, several reaching heights as high as 80 metres. They can be seen from both Argentina and Brazil with the inaccessible āDevilās Throatā defining the border between the countries. The main viewpoints are on the Argentinean side, which is visited most often by tourists. The waterfalls are the main tourist attraction in the northeast of Argentina and one of the most important in the entire country.
The rebranding of this hotel allows the Spanish hotel company to strengthen its presence in Argentina, a country in which it already operates two hotels in Buenos Aires: MeliĆ” Recoleta Plaza and MeliĆ” Buenos Aires. "The opening of MeliĆ” Iguazu in one of the most important travel destinations in South America is undoubtedly one of the greatest achievements of our international expansion this year. We are very pleased to be able to bring our Spanish hospitality to one of the most beautiful corners of the planet, and to form part of the experience of thousands of travellers, to whom we are committed to offering the highest standards of our MeliĆ” brand," said Gabriel Escarrer, Vice President and CEO of the hotel company at the announcement of the deal.
