July 08–A 159-room Hampton Inn & Suites Hotel is in the works near Station Square.
The Forza Group briefed city planning commission members today on a proposal to build the 15-story hotel on West Carson Street next to the Duquesne Incline.
It is the second hotel the Bridgeville developer has proposed in or near the Golden Triangle in the past couple of months. Forza also plans to build an eight-story, 99-room Holiday Inn Downtown on Fort Pitt Boulevard.
Forza hopes to begin construction of the Hampton Inn & Suites later this summer and have it completed in about 18 months.
All of the rooms would face the Point and the Downtown skyline. Guests also would have access to a 15th-floor observation deck to drink in the views.
Other amenities include a swimming pool and a fitness center. There also would be a three-level parking structure with more than 130 spaces on the east side of the hotel.
Part of the site once housed the 99-year-old Lawrence Paint Co. building, a dilapidated structure that was demolished in 2001.
Forza’s plans for the Holiday Inn, meanwhile, have hit a snag with the decision by some nearby residents to appeal the planning commission’s approval of the project.
