The reimagined resort invites travelers to discover waterfront well-being in contemporary New England-inspired spaces beginning April 15
NEWPORT, RI. – Newport Harbor Island Resort, a quintessential New England coastal destination and the only resort on Goat Island, announces its grand reopening on April 15 following a full reimagination. Owned by Pebblebrook Hotel Trust and operated by Davidson Resorts, the $50 million renovation marks a new era for the former Gurney’s property, comprised of refreshed, expansive guestrooms and suites, contemporary Spa, re-concepted culinary experiences, meeting spaces, and 22-slip marina.
David Smiley, General Manager of Newport Harbor Island Resort, commented, “We welcome travelers to join us as we unfurl the sails of Newport Harbor Island Resort’s new era, a haven where the beauty and history of our reimagined resort spark endless marvels and memories with every season, welcoming families, couples, and friends to create lasting memories.”
Paying homage to the destination’s coastal New England spirit, Newport Harbor Island Resort partnered with Dawson Design Associates (DDA) to re-concept the former torpedo factory to bring strong cohesion to its spaces, and weave the common threads of simplicity, warmth and coastal New England comfort throughout. Understated but elevated, the guest rooms and suites tout stunning water views – many of which also feature private outdoor spaces – and are adorned with natural color palettes and organic materials to achieve a look and feel of effortless elegance. Much of the art in the rooms and throughout the hotel was commissioned from local artists, while soft goods were hand-crafted by various New England weavers’ guilds to help create a sense of place that harkens back to the region’s storied road to independence.
Guests and locals will be invited to cozy up in the property’s upgraded culinary outlets, including its full-service restaurant 1639 and Torpedo Bar and Lounge, which boasts a hand-laid stone fireplace with weathered, comfortable indoor-outdoor seating and waterfront views. The venues’ cuisine will feature local, organic food sources, with a selection of signature dishes. Evocative of an early New England-style bakery with marble tile and motifs of black and white, the lobby’s The Bakery will function as a warm and inviting space to grab coffee drinks and freshly baked goods to-go. Meanwhile, the beloved Pineapple Club will activate with a new menu, expanded cabana seating inclusive of an adults-only section on the lower level, extended service to the Marina Deck and dockside, and special pop-up programming.
In keeping with the natural and sustainable design elements, The Spa at Newport Harbor Island Resort will reflect a palette pulled from hydrangeas, with hues of relaxing lavender, light periwinkle, and celery green, enveloping the space and evoking a sense of calm.
Located steps away from the water and downtown Newport, Newport Harbor Island Resort will afford guests access to the idyllic New England town as well as a wide swath of on-property experiences and rotating programming.
