Nobu Hotel London Portman Square has opened its doors as the UK’s lockdown restrictions ease and hospitality opens up. Located on a prominent corner of Marylebone’s Portman Square, the 249-room property features a signature Nobu Restaurant & Bar, year-round outdoor terrace, Nobu Pilates studio and two-bedroom Nobu Penthouse.
Nobu Hotel London Portman Square is the 13th hotel from the iconic brand – founded by Nobu Matsuhisa, Robert De Niro and Meir Teper – and third collaboration between L+R Hotels and Nobu Hospitality. A contemporary approach to both aesthetics and hospitality is employed throughout, taking inspiration from Japanese architectural disciplines and minimalist design, whilst utilizing a refined color palette influenced by heritage Japanese color combinations.
The hotel boasts elegantly appointed rooms and suites across seven distinct categories – many boasting terraces with views overlooking Portman Square. Those seeking something more indulgent can choose from four suite categories – One Bedroom Suite, Zen Suite, Saijoukai Suite and the two-bedroom Nobu Penthouse located on the top floor offering unparalleled 360-degree views of London.
Roku Japanese Gin Garden at Nobu Portman Square
Roku Japanese Gin Garden at Nobu Portman Square treats guests to an authentic taste of Haru (Japanese spring) from the floral and sweet aroma of cherry blossom in the Roku Gin cocktails to the unmistakably spring-like ambience found on the terrace, ornately designed, for this exclusive experience.
Open for lunch and dinner, guests can experience signature dishes from the Nobu Restaurant menu from Nigiri & Sashimi to classic Bento Boxes as well as Nobu’s famous Black Cod Miso and Yellowtail Jalapeño. These world-famous dishes will be served alongside Roku Gin’s perfectly balanced combination of six traditional botanicals, the first and only gin made by Japan’s legendary Suntory distillery. Based upon the Japanese culinary concept of ‘shun’ – to enjoy food and drink in their proper season – each cocktail will include ingredients harvested at the peak of their flavor, from the Sakura flower harvested in the spring to green tea in the summer.
Nobu Restaurant & Bar
The new opening sees the iconic Nobu Berkeley Street restaurant move to its new home in Marylebone. Continuing a 15-year legacy of exceptional culinary experiences, the Nobu Restaurant at Nobu Hotel London Portman Square brings the flagship’s signature handcrafted approach to cuisine and service into a brand-new space.
Hotel design
Award-winning David Collins Studio is responsible for the hotel’s public spaces, including the lobby, The Lounge, Nobu Bar and Restaurant, outdoor terrace, ballroom and boardrooms. Central to the unique aesthetic of Nobu Hotel London Portman Square is a focus on exceptional craftsmanship, from hand-blown glass chandeliers and bespoke lighting to large scale sculpture and original artworks.
Rooms and suites have been designed by Make Architects and echo a distinct character and allure seen in the rest of the hotel. Striking wall prints, bespoke lighting and intricate joinery take center stage in each room, set against the backdrop of a subtle, textural palette. An abundance of natural light and materials create a sense of place that is calm, bright and warm.
A number of Nobu Hotel London Portman Square’s impressive meetings and events spaces have also opened including the Sayuri Room – a dedicated event space for 40 guests – and the Sakura Boardroom and Lounge. The hotel’s 600-person ballroom will open in August 2021.
