Olympia Hotel Management is proud to announce the opening of The Glen House, a new 68-room hotel at the base of Mt. Washington, the highest summit in the Northeast.

Located in the heart of New Hampshire’s White Mountains, the hotel is owned by the Mt. Washington Summit Road Company (MWSRC) and managed by Olympia Hotel Management, a division of The Olympia Companies, an innovative leader in high profile hospitality management and development, real estate, and equity investment in the U.S. The Glen House is a complementary addition to the new breed of independently owned boutique hotel properties that Olympia Hotel Management excels in managing, a client list that includes the award-winning Inn by the Sea in Maine, and The Alfond Inn at Rollins in Florida, and SOPHY Hyde Park in Chicago. Thomas Spaulding is the General Manager.

The Glen House is just 30 minutes from North Conway and situated near the base of the Mt. Washington Auto Road, which the family-owned MWSRC has operated since 1906.

The Glen House has historic roots in New Hampshire’s White Mountains. The new hotel is the fifth generation of The Glen House and was built near the site of the original hotel, a landmark that opened in 1852 as tourists began to flock to the summit of 6,288 foot Mt. Washington, the highest peak in the Northeast. The new hotel carries on the tradition of its predecessors and is the first property to stand on this site in more than half a century.

THE GLEN HOUSE, A BASE CAMP FOR ADVENTURES

The new Glen House is the ideal base camp for those who love the outdoors and adventures in the White Mountains. Adjacent to the Mt. Washington Auto Road, which offers the most majestic views in New England from the top of Mt. Washington, the hotel is steps away from the hiking, biking and cross country trails of the Great Glen Trails Outdoor Center. As a fall foliage destination, the White Mountains are unrivalled in the Northeast. When the snow flies, the location offers the best cross country skiing and snowshoeing in New Hampshire and is just minutes away from the alpine trails of Wildcat Mountain Ski Area.

THE DESIGN & ARCHITECTURE

The heart of The Glen House is a welcoming great room that extends from the lobby to a sitting area with a towering stone fireplace, an open bar area and massive windows framing a view of Mt Washington and neighboring peaks in the Presidential Range. The cathedral ceiling, oversize chairs and the sense of space give this room the feeling of a classic White Mountain lodge. The great room leads to an expansive outside deck that’s partly covered, with ample seating and a stone fire pit, perfect for après ski sessions.

The design of this newest incarnation of The Glen House pays homage to the classic White Mountain hotels of the 1850’s, utilizing clapboards and painted trim in a style similar to its predecessors. Half of the rooms have views of Mt. Washington and sunset, while the others look towards neighboring Maine and the Wildcat Mountain Ski Area for sunrise views. Artwork embraces both the history of the Mt. Washington Auto Road and the four previous hotels. There is a gym and an indoor salt water swimming pool, with complimentary WiFi throughout the property.

The Glen House is close to energy self-sufficient and carbon neutral, thanks to a geo-thermal system that provides heating and cooling as well as two offsite energy-generating projects harnessing hydro and solar power. The hotel was designed and built by New Hampshire firms, including BMA Architectural Group of Amherst, interior designers Stibler Associates LLC of Manchester and contractors Martini Northern of Portsmouth.

DINING & DRINKING

The Glen House restaurant, The Notch Grille, is under the direction of Chef John Ginter and serves “comfort food with a twist.” The adjacent bar and outdoor patio with fire pit is the ideal place to sip a local brew after hiking or skiing and enjoy panoramic views of Mt. Washington. The restaurant will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, with brunch on the weekends, as well as a mid-afternoon social menu and an après ski menu, all available to the public.

OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES

The three-story hotel is designed to serve active outdoor travelers as well as guests driving the famous Mt. Washington Auto Road, the most famous mountain drive east of the Rockies. Considered America’s oldest man-made attraction, the road opened in 1861 and welcomed tourists first in stagecoaches and later in automobiles. The Great Glen Trails Outdoor Center, owned by MWSRC, is across the road from The Glen House and offers 40 km of walking and hiking trails, trail biking, guided wilderness kayaking and white water kayaking trips. Winter activities include Nordic skiing on 45 kilometers of classic and skate-groomed trails, snowshoeing, fat biking, snow tubing and winter tours up the mountain on the Mt. Washington SnowCoach. The Wildcat Mountain Ski Area is a short drive from the hotel.

WEDDINGS

Thanks to a range of flexible spaces and facilities, a dedicated catering staff and a full-service restaurant that offers indoor and outdoor seating, The Glen House hotel is on track to become one of the premiere locations in The White Mountains for destination weddings. The setting is also ideal for honeymoons.

MEETINGS

The Glen House offers more than 5,000 square feet of flexible indoor and outdoor space and seats up to 200 guests, making it ideal for social events, business meetings and corporate retreats. The hotel is a full-service meeting and event venue, with a dedicated meeting staff.
