PHOENIX – (December 23, 2015) – Hilton Garden Inn, Hilton Worldwide‘s (NYSE: HLT) award-winning brand of hotels, announced the opening of Hilton Garden Inn Phoenix Downtown, representing an addition to the brand’s growing portfolio of more than 650 properties worldwide. Once home to Phoenix’s historic Professional Building, the hotel is owned by and managed by Minneapolis-based CSM Corporation, and is truly distinctive.
Constructed in 1931 and recognized for its unique design, the Phoenix landmark was added to the National Register of Historic places in 1993. Its original limestone façade features classic Art Deco embellishments in the form of Phoenix birds intricately carved into the exterior above the entrance along Central Avenue, along with original bronze work above the main doors, and ornate window panels along the second floor roofline. This 12-story monument is a testament to the city’s unique history, and is an iconic mainstay of Downtown’s streetscape.
Now completely renovated and restored to its original artistry, guests are transported back in time to the swank and sophistication of a bygone era. Upon arrival, guests will immediately know they are in a unique and special place. The two-story, 24-foot-tall expansive lobby is the hallmark of the building. Original marble floors, Deco-era Corinthian capitals, bronze elevator doors and original wrought iron details bring a sense of grandeur and historic significance to the space.
“We worked very closely with our partners at Historic Consultants in Los Angeles to return the building to its former splendor,” said Steve Schlundt, chief operating officer of CSM Lodging and Residential. “We’ve taken painstaking care, using old photos for comparisons, to recreate many of the unique features of the lobby that had been removed under previous ownership, however, many details have remained in tact for the better part of a century. The workmanship is remarkable.”
Inside the grand lobby, modern design mixes seamlessly with Art Deco flare, and a bevvy of finishes like sumptuous leather sofas, mohair accents, acrylic tables and luxurious woods combine to make the old new again. Unique nods to the original building continue throughout, as check-in desks feature bronze inlays made from the original Valley National Bank teller desks, while the “entrance” sign at the elevator lobby will remain original to pay homage to the last 84 years; missing an “e” that was likely lost in one of the building’s former transitions.
The Garden Grille® offers a full cooked-to-order breakfast every morning, and diners can enjoy an easy lunch or casually upscale dinner inside Nook Kitchen, the hotel’s anchor restaurant. Perfect for a late afternoon meeting or winding down with a classic cocktail*, guests will also enjoy the easy ambience of Monroe’s, the hotel’s visually striking lobby bar. The hotel’s rooftop terrace, known as “Floor Thirteen,” offers guests additional space to experience panoramic views of The Valley while dining, meeting or enjoying a sunset drink. For guests with late-night needs, The Pavilion Pantry® is open 24 hours and features a complete selection of salty snacks, sweet treats, cold beverages, and microwaveable items.
Of course, at Hilton Garden Inn Phoenix Downtown, modern, high-end amenities abound welcoming travelers to sleep deep, stay fit, eat well and work smart while on the road. Guests will enjoy valet parking, a brand feature unique to this location, and will see why Life’s Better at the Garden™ through amenities offered at each Hilton Garden Inn location, including complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the hotel, 24-hour business center with Print Spots™ remote printing and a state-of-the-art fitness center. The hotel also features meeting rooms offering more than 2,600 square feet of flexible meeting space for up to 200 people.
All 170 guest rooms boast the brand’s signature bedding featuring fresh, white duvets and crisp linens; a spacious and clutter-free work desk with an ergonomic desk chair; and an in-room "hospitality center" with a mini fridge, microwave oven and Keurig coffee maker. Due to the unique architecture of the building, each standard room features at least two windows, with suites offering up to eight large windows with impressive views of the city streets below. The hotel’s signature Hitchcock Suite offers a tribute to the filmmaker who featured the building in the opening sequence of “Psycho,” and features the only private terrace in the hotel.
“We look forward to welcoming guests to our stunning new hotel in downtown Phoenix,” said Michelle Davis, general manager. “With our original Art Deco design, modern amenities and convenient location, our team is excited to provide guests a relaxing and memorable experience as they enjoy some of Phoenix’s finest attractions.
