Nov. 13–BRISTOL, Tenn. — A building permit has been issued to a South Carolina company that plans to build a $5 million Marriott Fairfield Inn and Suites hotel in the Exit 74 area at the former Confetti’s night club site, city officials announced Tuesday.

Bristol-based Frizzell Construction is the general contractor for the four-story, 98-room hotel being developed by Interstate Management and Investment Corp. on property adjacent to a Hampton Inn and Days Inn motel complex. Several local subcontractors are also on board and preliminary excavation has begun.

“This is a redevelopment project in a highly visible location. The influx of new rooms is a welcome addition to nearby commercial construction activity as well as the medical services in the area,” city Community Development Director Shari Brown said in a statement.

The property is directly across from the site of The Pinnacle commercial development that will include Bass Pro Shops, Belk and other shops and restaurants. Bristol Regional Medical Center is also nearby.

Deputy City Manager Mike Sparks said the retail appeal of The Pinnacle will draw shoppers off Interstate 81 and the new hotel will give them a nice place to stay.

“With Hampton Inn and now Fairfield coming, that increases the options for shoppers who will go [to The Pinnacle]. Bass Pro Shops is on track to open next summer and other retail establishments will open hopefully six months after that, so Fairfield’s announcement could not have come at a better time and I think, helps builds the excitement around that area of Bristol,” Sparks said.
