LOS ANGELES – Today, Proper Hospitality co-founders Brian De Lowe and Brad Korzen announce the opening of their new brand venture, Hotel June, on Los Angeles’ Westside. Inspired by the soul and spirit of California and named to reflect new beginnings and a year-round summer sensibility, the first Hotel June property opens its doors on June 22, marking a new chapter for Proper. De Lowe and Korzen created Hotel June as an approachable lifestyle hotel –– a stylish and uplifting place that invites frequent stays for travelers while also offering an essential setting for locals to gather. That sentiment will be at the heart of subsequent Hotel June properties planned across the U.S. and abroad.
Hotel June’s modern aesthetic reveals influences specific to each location with the coastal 250-room debut property seamlessly blending Southern California inflections and beach culture with the classic mid-century architecture of the historic building originally designed by Welton Beckett. Award-winning, Venice-based design agency, Studio Collective, brings the relaxed and bright spirit of the West Coast to life with light natural woods, native fabrics, handmade tiles and local art. Rooms are well-appointed with custom furnishings, Italian Fili D’oro linens and Aesop bath products, among other comforts including stunning coastal and city views.
“We created Hotel June to be a haven for our guests –– whether those traveling for business, doing a staycation, or who live in our community on the Westside of LA,” says De Lowe. “That intention remains at the core of the brand and as we look ahead to a brighter future, we aspire for Hotel June to have our guests feel completely transported, allowing them to unwind within a setting that showcases our passion for hospitality and design.”
Building on Proper Hospitality’s network of innovative culinary partners, Hotel June’s dining and drinking destinations are created in partnership with hospitality impresario Steve Livigni of Happy To Serve You Hospitality Group (Scopa Italian Roots, DAMA, Old Lightning). With the opening, Hotel June and Livigni debut Caravan Swim Club, a two-level, outdoor restaurant and bar that celebrates California and Baja California regional influences and local ingredients revealed in vibrant dishes that include freshly shucked Kumamoto oysters, fresh fruit raspado, plant-based cauliflower nachos and other fare appropriate for the poolside setting. Beverage offerings and craft cocktails are similarly suited for all-day lounging with an emphasis on agave spirits. Hotel guests and locals will have access to Caravan Swim Club dine-in service with reservations available through OpenTable. The culinary experience extends inside with Scenic Route, which takes guests on a road trip from Northern Baja to Santa Barbara, similarly drawing inspiration from California’s diverse cultures and traditions of agriculture, brewing, winemaking and distilling. Scenic Route introduces its all-day food and drink menus for dine-in service on July 8 with take-out and delivery available through Postmates starting June 22.
Hotel June’s robust beverage program includes Counter Culture coffee, cocktails, regional beer selections, and wine & spirits from predominantly California producers. The wine list emphasizes natural and biodynamic selections, along with co-branded labels with Richvale in Santa Barbara and Tresomm in Baja’s Valle de Guadalupe. The expansive spirit portfolio includes more than 100 agave offerings showcased in cocktails such as the Caravan Swim Club summer favorite, Five Prizes featuring Mal Bien Espadin Mezcal, with small-batch whiskies, Brandy and other darker spirits expressed in the offerings at Scenic Route.
“We envisioned both Caravan Swim Club and Scenic Route as true expressions of Southern California with flavors, dishes and beverages that reflect the terroir and personality of the region,” says Livigni. “Our team looks forward to providing guests and locals with a culinary experience that’s unlike anything else on the Westside, particularly within the expansive outdoor setting that Caravan Swim Club provides.”
With Hotel June’s mission to engage locals and celebrate emerging and diverse creatives, in the months to come, Scenic Route and the exterior pool deck areas will feature interactive and inclusive cultural programming including live music, screenings, inspiring talks and tastings. Additionally, the outdoor spaces will be available for private social event bookings including weddings and parties of various sizes contingent upon local mandates.
To ensure guest and staff safety, Hotel June has implemented strict health and safety standards including extensive cleaning and sanitizing measures, social distancing in all areas of the hotel, limited room reservations accepted each night, no-contact food ordering + delivery, and much more.
