MIDDLEBURG, VA — July 30, 2019 — Salamander Hotels & Resorts, the luxury hotel company founded by Sheila Johnson, has appointed Chris King as Chief Development Officer.
Working alongside the Salamander executive team, King is responsible for creating and implementing new business development strategies aimed at supporting the continued growth of the company’s luxury portfolio through third-party managed hotels and resorts in the US, Canada and the Caribbean, and increasing the number of Salamander-branded

A seasoned development and finance executive, King is experienced in capital markets, acquisitions and dispositions, asset management, strategic planning and investor relations. He joins Salamander after four years with Brookfield Asset Management in Washington, D.C., where he was Vice President of Real Estate Investments and oversaw $2 billion in hotel transactions.
King’s appointment follows the recent selection of Salamander as the management company for Half Moon, one of the Caribbean’s most iconic resort destinations in Montego Bay, Jamaica. The company also operates Salamander Resort & Spa in Middleburg, VA; Hotel Bennett in Charleston, SC; The Henderson in Destin, FL; Innisbrook Resort in Tampa, FL; and Hammock Beach Resort in St. Augustine, FL.

King is a veteran of DiamondRock Hospitality Company and Marriott International. As Vice President at DiamondRock, King was heavily involved in capital markets, oversaw investor relations and played a key role on the acquisitions team that acquired 34 hotels over 10 years. As Director of Development Finance at Marriott, King worked on over 100 hotel development projects worldwide and collaborated on a 10-year international development strategy. King has also served as a consultant for Access Holdings in Baltimore and Navigant Consulting in Washington, D.C. He began his career as Chief Financial Officer for a family business in Richmond, VA.
King received his Bachelor of Science with a finance concentration degree from Boston College, and a Masters of Business Administration with a finance concentration from the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business.
