July 25, 2024 — Today, Shenandoah Mansions, the fifth hotel from hotelier Ash, launches reservations ahead of its February 2025 opening in Richmond, Virginia.

Owned and designed by Ash, Shenandoah Mansions is a redbrick 73-key hotel inhabiting a six-story historic apartment building dating back to the 20th century. Once home to community leaders such as Ellen Gertrude Tompkins Kidd, a women’s suffrage activist and Pickle entrepreneur, Shenandoah Mansions exudes old-world charm through cinematic interiors with Richmond influence and references to local myths and legends.

Since first visiting Richmond, I’ve been captivated by the city’s vibrant energy and warmth,” said Ari S. Heckman, CEO and co-founder of Ash. “I’m looking forward to introducing our Ash hospitality to the city and offering a new gathering spot for guests, near and far.”

Located in the Fan District — a former bohemian enclave whose picturesque, Italianate series of boulevards are lined with historic Virginia houses and charming restaurants and stores  — Shenandoah Mansions sits just off Monument Avenue, offering sweeping views of treetops and steeples as one of the tallest buildings in the neighborhood.

A playground where fantasy meets folklore, Shenandoah Mansions greets guests with a lobby featuring hand-painted trompe l’oeil wood grain and a grand staircase leading towards long, winding corridors off of which guest rooms and suites are nestled. Also on the first floor are two bars, an intimate exterior garden, and the third Ash–Bar location, Ash’s all-day dining concept that interprets the spirit of the quintessential European cafe through an Americana lens.

Upstairs, heavy wooden doors open to reveal bright and airy guest rooms whitewashed and furnished with grand four-poster beds in gemstone colors with block-printed quilts, a nod to the folk artists still practicing in the Shenandoah Valley. Rooms host expansive bay windows, cinematic drapery, pine wood floors, and motifs inspired by American folk art, while bathrooms are adorned with imaginative hand-painted tiles.
