Nov. 06–A SpringHill Suites by Marriott is planned for Military Cutoff Road, Parks Hospitality Group announced Wednesday.
The Cary-based hotel ownership and management company set a date of early 2015 for the hotel to open at 1011 Military Cutoff, at Sir Tyler Drive.
The 77,000-square-foot hotel will have 120 suites, 1,200 square feet of meeting space and a full-service bar.
It will operate under a Marriott franchise and be owned and operated by Parks Hospitality.
“We liked the Mayfaire area, with its growing businesses and proximity to the beach,” said Trevor Walden, the company’s vice president for sales and marketing, adding that the hotel expects to attract leisure as well as business guests.
He would not disclose the project’s cost.
Plans for the four-story hotel were submitted to the city June 5 and it went before the technical review committee June 20, said Ron Satterfield, the city’s assistant planning director. No revised plans have been received, he added.
Parks Hospitality Group owns and manages four hotels in North Carolina, totaling 416 rooms and employing over 150 people — a Hilton Garden Inn and Doubletree by Hilton in the Raleigh-Cary area; a Hampton Inn and Suites in Burlington; and a Hampton Inn in Mebane.
It has a Hyatt Place hotel under development in downtown Asheville.
Walden said the company has no immediate plans for additional hotels in the Wilmington area.
SpringHill Suites will have competition in the Mayfaire area. Mayfaire itself has two hotels — Homewood Suites by Hilton and Hilton Garden Inn. Nearby are a Hampton Inn and Suites on Eastwood Road and a Residence Inn in the Landfall Business Park.
Parks Hospitality partners with the Hilton Worldwide, Marriott International and Hyatt franchises.
