GSTAAD, Switzerland, November 9, 2018 – The Alpina Gstaad has appointed Tim Weiland as its new General Manager. An experienced hotelier with more than 20 years of luxury hospitality expertise, Mr. Weiland will join the award-winning luxury hotel on November 1. He succeeds Eric Favre who has retired after serving as managing director of The Alpina Gstaad since October 2013.

Mr. Weiland has spent ten years in general manager positions with the renowned Aman Resorts and is well positioned to manage one of the most successful five-star resorts in the Swiss Alps. His luxury hotel experience gained in eight countries including China, France, India, Morocco, the Maldives and Switzerland will be invaluable background in serving the discerning guests of The Alpina Gstaad.

And he knows how essential showcasing the culture of a destination is. These will be pivotal as we celebrate our seventh winter season.”

Most recently, Mr. Weiland was General Manager of Aman Le Mélézin in Courchevel in France. In his four years there, the hotel underwent an expansion and refurbishment bringing the property to a new level of style and comfort.

Prior to Courchevel, Mr. Weiland spent almost two years at the Aman Summer Palace in Beijing and before that, was General Manager at Amanbagh in Rajasthan, India from 2010 to 2012.

Early in his career, Mr. Weiland worked in various food and beverage positions at five-star properties including the Robinson Alpenrose Zürs in Austria, the Hostal de La Gavina and the Hyatt Regency La Manga in Spain and the Disneyland Hotel in Paris. He was appointed Area Food & Beverage Manager for three Banyan Tree properties in the Maldives which featured an on-property marine biology laboratory as well as twelve different revenue centers on different islands with a 100-person staff. This led to his first position with Aman, Assistant Manager of Amanjena in Marrakech in 2008.

Mr. Weiland attended prep school in Nairobi and high school in Cape Town. He graduated from the Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne earning a Bachelor of Science in International Hospitality Management with a specialization in Resort Development, Sports & Leisure Management.

A German national, he speaks English, French, German and Spanish. He is married with two children and enjoys skiing and photography and is passionate about wine.
