April 1, 2019 (Litchfield, Arizona) – The Wigwam, a historic Southwestern oasis resort in Phoenix’s West Valley, announces the promotion of longest standing pet-ployee Archie Von Wigwam to General Manager. After two years of ensuring canine guests feel at home at the iconic property, which is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year, Von Wigwam will expand his services to guests of all species. In his new role, overseeing all operations of the resort, as well as day-to-day management to ensure remarkable guest experiences. “I am thrilled to pass on the title of General Manager to Archie, who has proved himself to be energetic and enthusiastic leader,” said Martin Greenwood, former General Manager of The Wigwam. “There is no pooch more deserving and integral to The Wigwam. His loyalty and commitment to staff, guests and West Valley locals inspires us all, and embodies the spirit and legacy of this historic resort.”
Von Wigwam officially joined the team in August 2017 as Pet Experience Manager, after stealing the hearts of each employee of The Wigwam at a local animal shelter. It was during a manager community service event at the shelter where Von Wigwam proved to be the missing piece of a near perfect team. The Wigwam was tasked with working with adoptable pets to build doghouses and Von Wigwam stood out as the most outgoing pup, determined to befriend everyone in the room. He’s been bringing joy to each and every guest as a part of The Wigwam family ever since. In his previous role, Von Wigwam was guests’ go-to pup for all canine needs, from providing a doggone comfy bed, treats and water bowl upon arrival, to offering curated itineraries for where to chomp and play at the resort and around Phoenix’s West Valley.
One of Von Wigwam’s most impressive achievements in his previous role was bringing local pet store, Pet Planet Litchfield, on as the official partner to provide pup-friendly welcome amenities. Since forging the connection, Pet Planet Litchfield has been the exclusive supplier of all complimentary treats and goodie bags offered to pooches upon arrival. Additionally, Von Wigwam spearheaded securing water bowls and plush in-room doggy beds provided by the resort, which are available for purchase should canine travelers want to take one home. Von Wigwam was also responsible for the introduction of Red’s Bar & Grill’s Bark Bites menu and pet-friendly patio in 2018, which gives pups the freedom to enjoy views of the elegant, arched palms and rolling greens of the resort’s championship Gold and Blue golf courses.
“This storied resort has made me the dog I am today, hence why The Wigwam is my namesake, and I am humbled and overjoyed to take on this leadership role,” said Von Wigwam of his appointment. “I am eager to continue building the resort’s reputation of excellence among canines and humans alike and offering travelers from within West Valley and afar a uniquely Southwestern experience.”
Von Wigwam’s promotion comes at an exciting time for The Wigwam, with the resort celebrating 90 years since opening its doors to guests on Thanksgiving Day 1929. In celebration of the milestone, the iconic resort is offering the 90th Anniversary Third Night 2019 Package including a third night at $19.29 in honor of The Wigwam’s opening year for stays through December 31, 2019. Those looking for a summer getaway can take advantage of the 90th Anniversary Summer Promotion, offering $90 room nights for stays from June 1 – August 29, 2019. Guests are also welcome to join the resort in celebrating the milestone with events and specials including the Throwback Movie Series, Speakeasy Saturdays, 1920’s-inspired menus, and a Turn Back The Clock Facial.
This release was distributed in celebration of April Fool’s Day 2019. Martin Greenwood remains General Manager of The Wigwam and Archie Von Wigwam continues to hold the title of Pet Experience Manager.
