Do Dual-Branded Hotels Outperform Single-Branded Hotels?

Chekitan S. Dev | January 22, 2020

By  Chekitan S. Dev and Eva Steiner Dual branding of hotels has become a growing industry practice. Beyond the potential marketing benefits of the dual-branding strategy, this paper tests whether dual-branded hotels operate more efficiently than comparable single-branded hotels (and therefore deliver better bottomline results). Comparing a proprietary longitudinal data set on the operating performance generated by dual-branded hotels in the U.S. against a set of comparable single-branded hotels, we document mixed results. While dual- and single-branded hotels achieve similar occupancy percentages, dual-branded hotels generate higher avera...

By J. Carter Allen This article focuses on specific market analysis and data applicable to the development and operation of dual-branded hotels. HOS Management/Development’s Plan to Develop Dual Branded Home2 Suites and Hilton Garden Inn in Brunswick, GA Approved

January 4, 2017

Jan. 04--Mainland Planning Commissioners approved a four-story Hilton hotel near U.S. Interstate 95 exit 38 at their Tuesday meeting, which was also the last meeting for at least one MPC member. Home2 suites are styled as extended-stay units while rooms in the Garden Inn portion will be standard, mid-priced hotel rooms. The building will also feature a conference room that will seat up to 100 people. Commission chairman Gary Neville said this was a notab...

Two-In-One Hotels Set to Grow in Europe, Says HVS Report

HVS | July 5, 2016

5 July 2016, London: Customers booking a stay with a particular hotel group are increasingly likely to be offered a choice of two brands on one site as the number of two-in-one or 'dual-brand' hotels looks set to rise, according to a new report from global hotel consultancy HVS. Two-in-one hotels, where two brands run by the same operator are located either next door to each other or within the same building, retain their identity by having dedicated entrances, front desks and elevators. Often they share back-of-house operations, guest amenities and even staff. Pioneered by AccorHotels 30 years ago, the concept is now growing steadily a...

Where Two Hotel Brands Are Better Than One

JLL Real Views | May 11, 2016

By Neasa MacErlean Building one strong brand has long been a basic rule in running a successful hotel – but some operators are now looking to improve margins by running two brands on the same property. Late next summer a new dual branded hotel is due to open in downtown Denver – even if many of the guests who stay there will be unaware of what makes it rather special. Just over half of the 495 rooms will be part of the full service Le Méridien brand while the remainder will operate under the select service AC Hotels flag. These two brands were owned by separate companies, Le Méridien by Starwood and AC Hotels b...
