Europe Hotel Occupancy Remains Stable Amid War in Ukraine

STR | March 28, 2022

Note: As the war in Ukraine continues, the obvious concern is with the people affected by this crisis. While remaining sensitive to the situation, STR also understands its responsibility as an independent provider of trusted global data. Hotel performance updates provide added visibility into the impact of the war, economic sanctions, etc. STR will continue to monitor its global data, both historical and forward-looking, and issue updates as appropriate.   Hotel performance has remained stable in most of Europe amid the war in Ukraine, and countries bordering the conflict area have seen a refugee-driven lift in occupancy. STR: Paris Leads Europe in New Year’s Hotel Booking Levels

STR | December 20, 2021

LONDON — December 20, 2021 — Lifted by the upcoming holiday season, hotel occupancy on the books is rising in Paris with a peak of more than 70% on New Year’s Eve, according to STR’s Forward STAR. As of 13 December, Paris’ occupancy on the books sat at 71.1% for 31 December, which was the highest across Europe’s key markets and the highest for the French capital over the next 90 days. From that high point, booking levels gradually decrease to a January low of 10.5% on the 31st.   For comparison, Rome and London New Year’s Eve occupancy on the books sits at 56.1% and 52.3%, respectively, while Brussels is even lower at 34....

On 1 July 2021, the EU Digital COVID Certificate Regulation entered into application, allowing fully vaccinated tourists to avoid tests or quarantines and broaden the list of European regions in which they could travel. July and August are historically two of Europe’s most important months for hotels with travellers spread across the continent on summer holidays, so have efforts like the aforementioned ...

STR: U.K. Leading Europe in Hotel Occupancy Recovery

STR | July 26, 2021

LONDON — July 26, 2021 — The U.K. continues to lead Europe in hotel occupancy with four straight weeks above 60% in the metric, according to STR data through 18 July. “Demand is almost exclusively leisure-driven as the U.K. has benefitted from a successful vaccination program, a phased reopening and improved travel sentiment overall,” said Thomas Emanuel, STR’s Director. “Other countries are showing improvement in recent weeks for those very same reasons, but this is still far from a normal summer in Europe.’ The U.K.’s highest weekly occupancy level (63.5%) came during 12-18 July, but that was still significantly lower...
