9 Hotel Waterpark Resorts Coming to Colorado

Jeff Coy | May 10, 2016

Three are under construction, 3 in development and 3 in planning By Jeff Coy, ISHC, May 10, 2016 Water is a precious resource. We drink it to hydrate our bodies. We irrigate our farms with it to grow food. We run our factories with it. We play in it for recreation. And we develop waterparks to attract tourists and vitalize our economy. In Colorado, where a lot of water originates in high country, there's even a water court and a judge to balance all these demands for water. Developers have to know a lot about water in order to get a project approved in Colorado. While Colorado may have lagged behind the national boom in indoor waterpark...

Hotels Focus More on Family Fun Facilities

Jeff Coy | April 14, 2016

Developers Consider Options for Adding WOW By Jeff Coy, ISHC April, 2016. Hotels are no longer just a place to lodge and sleep. Not content with just the same old amenities, today's hotel guest is looking for an experience. Dad or Mom may be attending a conference at the hotel, but if the hotel also has a waterpark or a family entertainment center, there is a strong reason to bring the whole family on what would otherwise be just a business trip. When both parents work, they already feel guilty about leaving their children home with a sitter. So hotels that offer high entertainment value and a conference center are especially appeali...

Water Parks Becoming Latest “Must Have” Amenity for Resorts to Lure & Wow Vacationers

April 19, 2014

April 19--There was no question among the leaders at Lakewood Camping Resort that when it came time to add some amenities to the campground, a water park would be first on the list. Families love water parks -- different parts appeal to different ages -- and it would be well worth the investment, said Shannon Gomer, chairwoman of the board of directors and a member of the family that built Lakewood. The $2 million water park, which opened in the fall a few months later than expected, is the cornerstone of an overhaul of the 55-year-old campground aiming to take it to a new level. "We knew that would be a part of it," Gomer said. "That m...
