Mobile First: Brit Smartphone Hotel Bookings Overtake Desktop for the First Time

SHR | August 1, 2024

UK, 1 August 2024 –  Brits are now making more hotel bookings on mobile devices than desktops for the first time, new research from SHR reveals1. The hotel technology specialist found that mobile bookings have overtaken desktop for UK staycations, with more than half of bookings (51.3%) made on a smartphone device over the last year – a 6.1% increase from the previous year. This shows how consumers are becoming far more comfortable booking travel on mobile devices, thanks in large part to the volume of information and seamless booking experience now available on all platforms. Desktop bookings have decreased by 3.8%, now ac...

Making Hotel Reservations – Is Mobile Living Up to the Hype?

DKSA's TRAVEL PERFORMANCE/MonitorSM | April 27, 2015

McLean, VA, April 27, 2015 - No, according to a national study by D.K. Shifflet and Associates. The study found that less than 10% of hotel reservations made in 2014 were done so using a hand held device. Further, while the majority of hotel reservations were made using laptops or desktops, more than 1 in 4 travelers still use traditional, non-electronic, methods for reserving their hotel rooms. "While many marketers focus their efforts on mobile, it is important to know that most travelers are using other methods to make their reservations including a large majority who still make reservations in more traditional ways," notes Chris Kla...

Cornell Study Finds Travelers Want More Mobile Options

The Center for Hospitality Research | April 21, 2015

Ithaca, NY, April 21, 2015 - As the hospitality industry gradually ramps up its mobile platforms, a new study published by the Center for Hospitality Research (CHR) finds that travelers are ready to use their smartphones and tablets for far more than is currently possible. The study of 754 U.S. travelers, by Heather Linton and Robert Kwortnik, also found that privacy remains a concern-even though many travelers are willing to share personal information in exchange for special offers and services. The study, "The Mobile Revolution Is Here: Are You Ready?," is available at no charge from the CHR. "Our respondents are ready to use their mo...

How Many Resorts have Adopted Responsive Website Design?

Ryan Solutions | December 2, 2014

After researching email width and mobile email open rates, a question came up surrounding where people go after they "click" on a mobile device. That's a question best answered on an individual resort level, but from a macro level, how many resort websites are responsive? Let's take a look. The Data To find our answer we looked at over 800 ski, beach, and golf resort websites using the viewport meta tag (and a few rules built on the way that tag is used) to identify responsive versus non-responsive sites. For this analysis we did not include m-dot websites (i.e., "m.resortdomain.com") in the "responsive" category. Interestingly, the bre...
