Jeanelle Johnson | July 25, 2024

This year, I had the privilege of leading a CEO panel discussion on "Innovative hospitality concepts, new spaces for expansion." I describe innovation in hospitality as the transformation of how the industry creates, delivers and captures value. Drawing from PwC’s 27th Annual Global CEO Survey, I highlighted a few key statistics to kickstart our conversation: 52% of CEOs say their top goal over the next three years is to identify new sour...

STR | June 3, 2024
NEW YORK – STR and Tourism Economics made significant downward adjustments to the 2024-25 U.S. hotel forecast just released at the 46th Annual NYU International Hospitality Industry Investment Conference. The latest revision reflects lower-than-expected performance thus far in 2024 as well as lessened growth projections for the remainder of the year. For 2024, projected gains in average daily rate (ADR) and revenue per available room (RevPAR) were downgraded 1.0 percentage points and 2.1 ppts, respectively. Occupancy for the year is now expected to decline after the previous forecast projected year-over-year growth in t...

By Rod Clough with contributions from Stephen Rushmore, Roland deMilleret, McKenna Luke, Eric Guerrero, Janet Ott, Patricia Shih, Cole Masler, Raymond Parejo, and Caroline Dioso This week marked the 45th Annual NYU International Hospitality Industry Investment Conference, with the industry’s leaders descending on the Marriott Marquis Times Square to discuss the future of lodging. NYU Conference Takeaways: Despite Some Challenges, the Hospitality Sector Is Still Looking Good
Rod Clough | June 15, 2022
By Rod Clough The tale of the looming recession was mixed, with some forecasting a shallow, short-lived recession, and others expecting a more significant impact. The overall sentiment remains a positive one, and that cash flow growth should continue. Despite high inflation, other economic markers, such as consumer goods, mortgage default rates, and low unemployment rates, look positive. ADR will reach new highs in 2022, with further, albeit more muted, growth expected through 2023. With little push-back being seen in the market on higher ADRs, hotel owners are able to tap into this revenue source to combat higher operating costs, infla...

Hotel News: At NYU Conference, It’s the Same Song, Just a Different Chord
David Eisen | July 1, 2019
By David Eisen If you’re like me, then you live for the next hospitality industry conference. Am I right? A chance to catch up with friends, pontificate on the health of the space, pound coffee with reckless abandon, chow down on conference chicken, and stay out way too late carousing so that you look like an extra from “Night of the Living Dead” on the morning of the second conference day. Yeah, it’s the best! In our industry, you could throw a ball blindfolded and hit a conference on practically any day of the week. Still, one of the more eagerly anticipated is the NYU International Hospitality Industry Investment Conference h...
