GOLDEN, Colorado – April 22, 2021 – Denver dining veteran, Chef Ben Shapiro has signed on to lead the food and beverage program at The Eddy Taproom & Hotel, set to open this June in Golden. The 49-room boutique hotel is situated on the site of the old Golden Fire Brick Company and will celebrate both the mining history of the region and the abundance of outdoor adventures found in Golden. With two dining concepts, two rooftop decks and walking distance to outdoor pursuits, The Eddy is a gateway to Golden and the Colorado Rockies.

Chef Shapiro will oversee day-to-day operations at The Eddy Taproom & Hotel’s two distinct culinary experiences. The Taproom will offer a hearty mountain menu that focuses on seasonal, Rocky Mountain local ingredients paired with eight craft beers on tap. Truck Eddy, the property’s food truck, will welcome guests upon arrival with a selection of barbecue and shakes that can be enjoyed on nearby picnic tables, on the outdoor lawn or in the comfort of a guest room. To offer guests a sneak peek at the creative treats, Truck Eddy has been making regular appearances throughout the Golden and Denver area since January. Foodies can track down Truck Eddy’s schedule on The Eddy Taproom & Hotel website.

“I’m excited to bring a fun, approachable but, most importantly, delicious menu of exciting food options to our guests,” said Chef Shapiro. “So far, the reaction to Truck Eddy so far has been great, which has helped us refine our menu even more. I can’t wait to build on that concept and introduce a new unique experience at The Taproom.”

Shapiro brings more than 10 years of experience in Denver area restaurants to the role. Most recently, he served as executive chef at El Camino Community Tavern where he revamped the menu to include more authentic cooking techniques and more effectively meet the needs of various diets. Previously, Shapiro was executive chef at Steuben’s Arvada where he quickly rose from sous chef to oversee the restaurant known for recreating regional American classics. Prior to that, he was executive chef at Masterpiece Kitchen where he was awarded both “People’s Choice” and “Judge’s Choice” for his crispy chicken wings at the 2016 Ace Wings & Whiskey event, which he won two years in a row. Shapiro launched his culinary career at Masterpiece Delicatessen.

Shapiro holds a degree in culinary arts and food service management from Johnson & Wales Denver. Originally from Overland Park, Kansas, throughout high school he attended training at Broadmoor Technical Center where he was named one of the “Broadmoor Alumni to Watch” by the Kansas City Star. Chef Shapiro had a culinary calling at an early age, starting out by cooking for his Boy Scout troop.
