Athens, Greece – August 11, 2021 – Urban hotel collection Brown Hotels, has today announced the official launch of its first three properties in Athens, Greece, marking the third international location for the Tel Aviv-born hotel group. Expanding into the Greek capital, Brown Hotels has opened three unique hotels in the heart of Athens, ushering in a new wave of hospitality to the increasingly popular destination. Each boasting an individual design and concept, Brown Acropol, DAVE Red Athens and Villa Brown Ermou are the first of seven new properties by Brown Hotels set to open in Greece over the next two years, as the hotel group firmly establishes itself on the Greek market.
Brown Acropol is a 165 room-and-suite hotel on Athens’ Omonia Square, situated amongst the city’s finest neoclassical buildings. Bringing the vibrant, sophisticated and buzzy attitude of Brown Hotels to the legendary neighborhood, the property, which was originally built in 1976, is a unique example of Greek modernism designed by Greek architect Emmanouil Vourekas – the same architect who designed the distinguished Hilton Hotel in Athens. After undergoing careful renovations led by architect Dimitris Karabatakis of K Studios, Brown Acropol retains its vintage Athenian charm whilst introducing a new and contemporary era of hospitality to the revitalized Omonia Square.
Drawing inspiration from the original Brown TLV Urban Hotel, guests can anticipate an interior decor reminiscent of the 1960s at Brown Acropol, furnished with an eclectic mix of vintage and bespoke pieces including a retro trolley bar and record player in each room. With a nostalgic feel, materials such as greek marble, wood, concrete and aluminium are present throughout, with a colour palette of burned orange, mustard-yellow and shaded brown that warm the high-ceiling space.
The hotel lobby features the signature Brown Hotels library and a mural by Α. Pikionis, the son of the noted architect Dimitris Pikionis, that was painted in the 1950s and creates a harmonious design language with the interior decor. Guests are welcomed by a retro-inspired cocktail bar, with paneled oak, dusty pink furnishings and gold finishings. The buffet and a la carte breakfast is served in the lobby week-long, with a special brunch on weekends, all offering locally sourced, fresh and delicious produce. Brown Acropol’s spacious rooftop is one of the largest and most impressive rooftops in the city offering unobstructed panoramic views of the Athenian cityscape and the renowned Acropolis. Alongside a stylish open-air rooftop bar, the rooftop features several relaxation areas with sun beds, hammocks, outdoor showers, a fully equipped gym and the hotel’s highlight – four outdoor hot-tubs open for guests both day and night. With the famous Brown Hotels ‘bubbles and bubbles’ concept, guests are invited to relax in the jacuzzi hot tubs with a glass of champagne, whilst taking in the incredible views that stretch across the ancient city bursting with history. Brown Acropol also has a spa with intimate treatment rooms, dry sauna and a Hammam for guests to enjoy. Additional amenities in all rooms at Brown Acropol include Nespresso Machine and Brown Acropol branded robes and slippers, among other items.
Having opened this July, DAVE Red Athens is the fourth property from Brown Hotels’ affordable urban collection following DAVE Gordon, DAVE Levinsky and DAVE Downtown in Tel Aviv. Situated on the opposite side of Omonia Square just a stone’s throw away from Brown Acropol, DAVE Red Athens breathes fresh, young energy into the recently redesigned area, offering fun and budget-friendly accommodation to the modern tourist.
The 87-room boutique hotel features the DAVE brand’s distinguishable, punchy decor, with an industrial style interior design and fiery red branding. DAVE Red Athens boasts a retro design aesthetic with each room featuring exposed pipes, bare concrete walls, marble top surfaces and oak wood furnishings, and finished with nostalgic gadgets including a vinyl player. The building, which formerly served as the KKE (Communist Party of Greece) headquarters, is honored beautifully through a wall mural at the entrance of the hotel’s mezzanine area, which features pool tables, original Nintendo and Packman consoles, hammocks to relax in and an intimate bar.
The ground floor of the hotel features a bar and restaurant, and a soon-to-launch underground nightclub accessed through a secret door imbedded in the iconic Brown Hotels library, both operated by Six D.o.g.s hospitality group. With an all-day-dining concept, guests are invited to enjoy the breakfast buffet and a la carte menu, offering the signature Six D.o.g.s beef burger and an indulgent cocktail list. The roof terrace is the perfect place for guests to relax and unwind, with sweeping views across the ancient city. Presenting a spacious sundeck, pool table, jacuzzi hot tub, massage room and complimentary sparkling wine on tap, DAVE Red Athens is an unparalleled, urban bolthole for the younger traveler in Athens.
Nestled in the picturesque, Parisian-like Plaka neighborhood, Villa Brown Ermou which opened mid-May, presents a refined, urban retreat right in the heart of the city situated amongst some of the city’s main attractions such as Syntagma Square and the famous Ermou shopping street. With impeccable service at its core, Villa Brown Ermou is the first international outpost of the original Villa Brown Jerusalem, offering 51 elegant rooms and suites all finished to an ultra-high standard. A contemporary take on old-school opulence, Villa Brown Ermou is an intimate boutique hotel for the discerning traveler.
With a sophisticated design aesthetic, Villa Brown Ermou’s interiors imbue a tasteful glamour with Greco-French influences, a black and white monochromatic color palette dressed with soft pink and copper accents. Honoring traditional design and the use of natural materials, each room features classic paneled walls, wooden parquet flooring and a decorative marble mantelpiece, finished with sage green and pale pink velvet furnishings. The hotel lobby boasts a sleek, monochrome tiled floor with clean white walls, leading into a cozy cocktail lounge and neo-bistro, where guests can enjoy casual all-day dining and a menu offering local wines and contemporary small dishes. In addition, this winter will welcome the arrival of Villa Brown Ermou’s incredible rooftop complete with a swimming pool, lounge area, French-style bistro, spa with Hammam, dry sauna and jacuzzi baths, and breathtaking panoramic views across the entire city.
Leon Avigad, founder of Brown Hotels, says: “We believe that Athens is a destination on the rise, taking the opportunity to expand early into the market. Greece has much more to offer than just the islands – Athens has a vibrant art, cultural and nightlife scene and we’re excited to play a part in the revival of the city. Having partnered with many local talents such as architects, designers, chefs and mixologists, we’re proud to be involved with cultivating the creative community in Athens.”
Expanding its property portfolio further, Brown Hotels seeks to spread the success of its devotion to service, design, creativity and style through the opening of four additional hotels in Athens by 2023. Like the group’s well-known Tel Aviv properties, Brown Hotels will subsequently open Lighthouse Athens, Brown Spices and Theodore Athens, and additional properties in Thessaloniki, Cyprus, Corfu and beyond.
