LANGKAWI, MALAYSIA – October 2023 – The Ritz-Carlton, Langkawi welcomes award-winning hotelier Chef Luke Borg to the team as the new executive chef.
Hailing from Malta and with a Master Chef Diploma from the University of Malta, Luke brings with him over 16 years of culinary experience on the world stage, from Denmark, Malta, Mozambique, Thailand and more. A passionate chef who consistently seeks to improve, Luke keeps abreast of all the latest culinary trends and supports the use of local produce and sustainable dining.
After an internship at the two Michelin-starred Andrew Fairlie restaurant in The Gleneagles Hotel, Scotland, Luke started his career as chef de cuisine at The Arches Restaurant Mellieha in his native Malta, before progressing to stints as Executive Chef at Mellieha Holiday Centre Hotel by FolkFerie, Hormuz Grand Hotel in Oman, Avani Atrium Bangkok, Al Baleed Resort Salalah by Anantara, and most recently at Niyama Private Island, Maldives.
Adept in Mediterranean, European, Asian, Middle Eastern, South American and African Cuisine, with experience in pastry, he has undergone training at a number of Michelin-starred restaurants, which are: three Michelin-starred La Vie, two Michelin-starred Restaurant De Kromme Watergang, and four one Michelin-starred restaurants across Crotia, France and the Netherlands, he brings a wealth of experience with him to The Ritz-Carlton, Langkawi.
Throughout his career, in addition to being part of renowned restaurants he has also been named as European Chef of the Year in 2014 by the World Association of Chefs’ Societies, and successfully launched the Salalah Food Festival during his time at the Al Baleed Resort Salalah by Anantara. Oman, where Michelin-starred chefs collaborated with the hotel in a series of guest shifts.
