Muscat, Oman, October 2, 2018 – In September 2018, Paul Wieser joined Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa and Shangri-La Al Husn Resort & Spa as new executive chef. A veteran of luxury hotel brands and esteemed culinary schools with over 25 years of experience, Wieser will look after the gastronomic development of 18 restaurants and bars across the two resorts. Wieser’s first major project will be the launch of a new dining venue that will serve casual Southeast Asian cuisine at Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort’s Al Bander hotel.
Wieser joins the resorts in Oman after overseeing the pre-opening of Melia Yangon in Myanmar. In 2009, Wieser held the executive chef position at Shangri-La Hotel, Surabaya, and previously as executive sous chef at Shangri-La Al Husn Resort & Spa in 2007. Prior experience to his Shangri-La journey include working in two Michelin-starred restaurants in Germany and award-winning restaurants in the UAE. Wieser has also worked for hospitality brands including Sofitel, Bavarian Hof Munich, Novotel, Steigenberger and Melia.
Originally from Rotthalmuenster, Germany, Wieser holds many achievements including winning first place at the Victoires Internationales de la Cuisine competition in Frankfurt, Germany, and winning second place at the World Competition of the Victoires Internationales de la Cuisine in Lyon, France in January 2001. In 1987 and 1988, Wieser was chef de partie on the original Queen Elizabeth II cruise liner.
