Nov. 11--The Charmant Hotel will be the name of the Don and Roxanne Weber family's luxury boutique hotel slated to open at the end of 2014 in the former Joseph B. Funke Candy Co. factory building at 101 State St. in downtown La Crosse. The name was announced today by Aparium Hotel Group, a Chicago-based company that will manage the independent hotel. Nov. 11--A Canadian-based real estate investment trust that specializes in hotels that serve railroads said it plans to build a 110-room hotel in Wellington American Hotel Income Properties REIT said the hotel will be developed with partner SunOne Developments on a two-acre site in the seat of Sumner County. The hotel, Oak Tree Inn, is slated to open in September, and it will include a Penny's Diner that will be open 24 hours a day. Nov. 11--The contract that will see a mixed-use building go up on a downtown parking lot is nearing completion. Nov. 10--IRONTON -- A long-awaited hotel development is about to start construction in Ironton. Work on a Holiday Inn Express and Suites hotel and a Frisch's Big Boy restaurant should begin in two or three weeks, Mayor Rich Blankenship said. The hotel and restaurant will go up on a four-acre site on Ninth Street, just off the Park Avenue exit of U.S. 52. Earth-moving equipment is already at the site. When complete, the hotel will have 79 units and an indoor pool, Blankenship said. The hotel is being built by MPH Hotels of St. Petersburg, Fla., and the restaurant by local investors, he said. Nov. 09--MCALLEN -- Nine months after plans to build an Embassy Suites collapsed, McAllen started soliciting new proposals Thursday for a full-service hotel near the Convention Center. Developers have already pledged to build three hotels -- a Holiday Inn, a La Quinta Inn and a Cambria Suites, which remains subject to negotiation -- near the Convention Center.
