ATLANTA (November 10) – Blueprint RF (Hospitality Core Services, LLC), a hotel Internet service provider, announced today that the company has filed Inter Partes Reviews (IPRs) with the United States Patent Trial and Review Board (PTAB) to invalidate five patents held by Nomadix, Inc. If Blueprint RF is successful all of these patents could be found invalid.
The five patents which have been submitted for review include U.S. Patent Numbers: 6,636,894; 8,156,246; 8,266,266; 8,266,269; and 8,364,806. All pertain to portal page redirection, which occurs when a guest initially connects to the Internet at a hotel, airport or other public access space and views a login page first.
The IPRs were filed in response to a lawsuit initiated in The U.S. Central District Court for the Central District of California on October 24, 2014, in which Nomadix alleges Blueprint RF’s Dominion gateway infringes Nomadix patents.
“Blueprint RF has submitted clear prior art evidence, demonstrating use of redirection technology that predates Nomadix patents. We believe that it will be apparent to the United States Patent Office that redirection to a login page was in no way invented by Nomadix or its representatives,” said Ron Peterson, CEO of Blueprint RF.
Earlier this year, the federal judge assigned to the case, Judge Dean D. Pregerson, ruled that allegations of deceiving federal patent examiners, otherwise known as inequitable conduct, could go forward against Nomadix.
