McLean, VA, September 14, 2016 – Leisure travelers of all generations, but particularly the younger generations, plan to travel less this fall than they did last year according to a national survey by D.K. Shifflet & Associates. Millennials, who showed the largest increase in 2015, show the largest decrease in 2016. Even the ever steady Boomers show a slight decrease in their intent to travel this fall.
“This fall is set to be least traveled of the past several years” notes Cheryl Schutz, Vice President at D.K. Shifflet & Associates. “Even those who are planning to travel this fall will be taking shorter trips. Only Millennials, who are known for taking shorter trips, are planning to spend slightly more days away from home this fall.” Schutz goes on to say that, “this softening in leisure travel is expected to continue through the end of 2016.”
In 2012, D. K. Shifflet & Associates began producing quarterly travel intention reports to help marketers anticipate and plan for fluctuations in travel demand and spending. Winter 2016 intentions will be available in November.
Results based on a representative sample of the U.S. population (n=8,291) interviewed in August 2016 by D.K. Shifflet & Associates Ltd. DKSA located in McLean, VA, which has, since 1981, provided the Industry’s most complete consumer based travel data on U.S. residents and their travel worldwide.
