Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. – Sawgrass Marriott Golf Resort & Spa has named Chef Edgar Maldonado as its new Executive Chef.
Chef Maldonado will oversee the culinary operation for all seven of the resort’s dining venues as well as banquets. He has more than 27 years of food and beverage experience, including 16 with Marriott International. During his noted hospitality culinary career, he has worked with large convention hotels, luxury brand properties and returns to the Sawgrass Marriott where he previously served as senior sous chef.
He has developed his culinary style under some of the top chefs in the nation, including James Beard award winner Melissa Kelly.
Chef Maldonado enjoys using his culinary creativity to blend Latin American influences inspired by his time growing up in Venezuela with classical stateside offerings to create his own unique flavor profiles, textures and eye-appealing presentations.
“We are thrilled to welcome Chef Maldonado back to Sawgrass Marriott Resort & Spa,” said General Manager Todd Hickey. “He is extremely talented, and his unique skills will enhance the amazing dining experience of our guests.”
The resort offers seven award-winning dining destinations ranging from beachfront eats to upscale. The resort’s signature restaurant, Vernon’s First Coast Kitchen & Bar, features a farm-to-table menu and has received the OpenTable Diner’s Choice Award as well as the Florida Historic Coast People’s Choice Award.
