Independent Research Reveals Need for New Capabilities and Technology in Hospitality

ALPHARETTA, GA. – June 17, 2015Agilysys, Inc. (Nasdaq: AGYS), a leading global provider of next-generation hospitality software solutions and services, today announced availability of the Upgrading to a Next-Generation Hotel Property Management System (PMS) eBook. Based on extensive research conducted by Starfleet Media, the document reveals how hotels are looking to new PMS technology to optimize efficiency, maximize revenue and profitability, and drive competitive advantage in a crowded marketplace.

According to the research, achieving these goals means not only streamlining day-to-day operations across the organization by maintaining better management controls, but also gaining a deeper understanding of the unmet wants, needs and behaviors of guests through analytical reporting – and then, importantly, acting on those insights to increase guest satisfaction, loyalty, brand advocacy and retention. While the range of features and functionality tends to be broad, the overarching goals tend to be the same: to reduce costs, generate business insights and, ultimately, increase hotel occupancy, revenue per available room and overall profitability.

“Hotels, resorts and other lodging properties that want to compete effectively in today’s business environment must automate their daily operations across multiple departments and functions,” said Jeff Zabin, chief executive officer at Starfleet Media. “They also need visibility into all aspects of operational performance and guest experiences. All of this speaks to the need for a next-generation hotel property management system.”

Key findings of the study include:

  • 96% of respondents say that improving guest satisfaction is one of the biggest benefits one can expect to gain with the right property management system.
  • 79% of respondents from large, full-service hotels (and 64% from mid-size, limited-service hotels) indicate that upgrading their property management systems has improved business results ‘significantly’ or ‘dramatically’.
  • 89% respondents reveal that one of the biggest reasons to upgrade their property management systems is to streamline operations and drive efficiency.
  • 44% of respondents from large, full-service hotels currently use a property management system to manage five or more functions or departments.
  • 84% of respondents agree that employees at all levels and across all departments require mobile access to be most effective in their daily activities.

“Ensuring that all operations that are central to running a lodging property are working as efficiently and effectively as possible is no easy task,” said Jim Walker, vice president of sales and marketing at Agilysys. “This research not only emphasizes the importance of the property management system in streamlining overall operations but also provides a roadmap for hotels and resorts as they consider their unique needs for next-generation PMS technology.”
