Cancun, Mexico (January 31, 2022) – As Kempinski debuts its first Mexico property with the Grand Hotel Cancún managed by Kempinski, loyal guests of the property will be happy to find familiarity in the hotel’s lauded culinary offerings. At the end of the year, the property will be fully operated under Kempinski Hotel Cancún.
With over 34 years in the business, Chef Rene Camelo is no stranger to the property or catering to its devoted, epicurean clientele. This is partly due to his loyalty to the very walls that saw him grow from a cook in 1996 to Executive Sous Chef by 2022. By 2023, Chef Camelo will be overseeing all the culinary experiences throughout the property, or better said, his home away from home.
“Rene is truly passionate and dedicated to the property,” said General Manager, Aref Sayegh. “Loyal guests of this property recognize and cherish his classic homestyle cuisine with an elevated feel. We are confident that new guests will love our refreshed dining options.”
Chef Camelo’s love for food started in his grandmother’s kitchen in Sucila, Yucatan, and his locally sourced dishes emphasize the authentic touch within the hotel’s robust food and beverage program. Grand Hotel Cancún managed by Kempinski offers five onsite restaurants to enjoy Chef Camelo’s carefully curated menus, from the award-winning Mediterranean fine-dining restaurant Fantino, to the romantic Casitas, where guests dine on the sand and under the stars. As Kempinski transitions into the property, Chef Camelo will continue to dream up sumptuous Mexican cuisine with the added Kempinski feel.
“It’s an honor to continue my journey at Grand Hotel Cancún managed by Kempinski,” said Executive Chef, Rene Camelo. “We’re eager to welcome guests to enjoy the Kempinski touch and local Mexican elements across our culinary program.”
