(January 2, 2024 – Hilton Head Island, South Carolina) – The Westin Hilton Head Island Resort & Spa has appointed Jorge Petterson as Executive Chef, overseeing the resort’s culinary program across its five on-site restaurants, including Splash, The Carolina Room, View 32, Ingredients, and Oceans. Bringing over two decades of experience to his role, Petterson has led kitchens at hotels and resorts throughout North America and the Caribbean.
Hailing from Lima, Peru, Chef Petterson is proud to bring the flavors from his home country to South Carolina, allowing guests to experience what he considers to be “the best gastronomy in the entire world.” His career began as Lead Cook at Orlando Worldcenter Marriott, where he worked at the three-meal restaurant, Solaris, before transferring to the resort’s signature steakhouse, Hawks Landing. From there, he held various jobs within the hospitality sector, including opening the hotels Condado Vanderbilt in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the Renaissance Plano at Legacy West in Texas, the JW Marriott Grand Rapids in Michigan, and City-place Springwoods Village Marriott in Spring Texas.
Inspired by his family members, Chef Petterson describes his service philosophy as clean, no frizz, and full of love. “Some of my favorite memories revolve around opening the door for new and upcoming culinarians,” says Chef Petterson. “There’s something truly special about watching those with a love for the industry learn the ropes and find their footing in the kitchen.”
A seasoned manager, some of his most formative experiences include when he had the opportunity to cook at the James Beard House, serving on the task force team at notable properties, and cooking for former President Clinton while serving as the Executive Chef at Costa Rica Marriott Hotel Hacienda Belen.
Chef Petterson currently resides in Bluffton, South Carolina, with his two dogs, Bella and Nano, and his life partner, Norilyn. During his free time, he loves to visit the beautiful beaches found throughout the region and indulge in delicious wines.
