Anticipated to Open in Early 2020, the New Build Melbourne Downtown Property Marks First Tapestry Collection in Florida
MELBOURNE, Florida – February 6, 2018 – Willow Street Capital, Duke Hospitality, The Charre Group, and their capital partners, through a joint venture, announced they have signed a franchise agreement with Hilton (NYSE: HLT) for a new Tapestry Collection by Hilton hotel in Melbourne, Florida. The signing represents the first property in Florida for Hilton’s 14th brand created for travelers looking for a unique, upscale hotel experience. The property will join Tapestry Collection hotels in Washington, DC, Chicago, and Seattle, among other locations that have recently been announced.
Anticipated to open in early 2020, the new- build property will bring casual sophistication to the heart of Florida’s Space Coast, minutes away from the Orlando Melbourne International Airport.
The 156-room boutique hotel will be the only one in Melbourne within walking distance to dining, shopping, and nightlife. A rooftop level with stunning wrap-around water and city views will feature a bar lounge and meeting spaces equipped with state-of-the-art technology, providing an unparalleled experience in the heart of the historic downtown district. The city is known for its thriving aerospace, technology and healthcare employers, as well as beautiful beaches and outdoor activities.
“It’s time that the dynamic city of Melbourne can boast a welcoming and stylish hotel that tourists and business travelers alike can call home in the historical downtown district. We are proud of the public-private partnership we have established with the City of Melbourne to make this outstanding project possible,” said Miguel Rivera, principal of Willow Street Capital, the group leading the development.
Some of the many benefits the new hotel is anticipated to bring to Melbourne include the creation of more than 200 jobs during construction, and after completion: more than 50 permanent jobs, and the infusion of more than $50 million annually to the local economy. The property will include a three-level garage that will be open to the public and provide many more parking spaces than are required for the hotel.
Architects from Overcash Demmit collaborated with designers from Malcolm Berg’s award-winning EoA Group to create a unique property filled with spaces that will be both beautiful and vibrant, in line with the Tapestry Collection by Hilton philosophy. The hotel will be managed by Duke Hospitality, an experienced operator, developer, and owner of hotels with 13 properties already in its portfolio.
“The spectacular design and practical layout our design team has delivered will allow us to provide our guests unprecedented service and comfort in a free-spirited environment. Combined with the strength of the Hilton name, we are confident this will quickly become the premiere hotel in Melbourne,” said Wesley Dowdy, president of Duke Hospitality.
“Our site was carefully selected after a diligent review of the possibilities in the area,” said Christian Charre, president of The Charre Group. “We want our guests to be at the center of an energetic, walkable neighborhood; yet, we also want them to be away from the noise and vibration of the busy train tracks that traverse the city. This is the only site we found that will allow us to accomplish both goals.”
