Origin Hotel Kansas City, a Wyndham Hotel, is the first-ever hotel located on the Berkley Riverfront along the Missouri River, opening in October 2024. The property is proud to announce its executive leadership team: Director of Food & Beverage Brandon Buschart, Executive Chef Michael Olson, Director of Sales Katie Tiegreen and General Manager Dustin Weber.
Brandon Buschart, director of food & beverage
Joining the Origin Hotel Kansas City team with over 25 years of experience, Buschart is responsible for the overarching guest experience, ensuring that Chef’s vision is brought to life and aiding in the mentoring of hospitality workers at all on-site food and beverage concepts.
A true Kansas City native, Buschart originally wanted to pursue a career in finance at Kansas State University, however, when he started to bartend during his college years, he fell in love with the industry due to its unpredictable nature and ability to keep things fresh. Buschart brings authenticity and simplicity into his philosophy and approach to his new role, by staying on top of the latest industry trends. Further expanding his knowledge, he has obtained several beverage certifications becoming a certified Sommelier, Ciceron, and Master of Whiskey, and is currently working toward his Sake Samura certification.
His experience ranges from working in various front-of-house roles to truly understanding the local consumer and their needs in various management positions. Buschart has previously helmed food & beverage operations at concepts such as Kimpton Hotel Monaco, Pendry Park City, Marcel & St. Cecilia under Rocket Farm Restaurants, and more.
Michael Olson, executive chef
Stepping into the role of executive chef at Origin Hotel Kansas City, Michael Olson brings decades of family-style tradition and experience into this position. Olson will lead back-of-house operations while crafting innovative menu items, guided by his “omakase-style” philosophy, which lets the local ingredients take center stage. His goal is to deliver bold flavors that capture the essence of Kansas City’s culinary heritage. Olson will oversee menu planning, cost analysis, purchasing, and inventory management for the hotel’s restaurant, Show Pony.
Studying at the Culinary Academy of Johnson County and having worked under several Gordon Ramsey trained chefs, Olson plans to work closely with local farmers and create a “no waste” kitchen. Olson’s talents have led him to hold roles including executive chef at The American Restaurant in Kansas City, executive sous chef at The Carriage Club and executive sous chef at Omni Hotels & Resorts in Houston, Texas. Excited to be back in the city he grew up in, Olson aims to showcase Kansas City’s culinary scene by crafting unique dishes that blend global influences with local ingredients.
Katie Tiegreen, director of sales
Born and raised in Lawrence, Kansas, Katie Tiegreen is a seasoned professional in the Midwest hospitality industry with over a decade of experience, having held leadership roles in sales and catering with Prism Hotels & Resorts, Heart of America Group, and Martens Companies. Obtaining her bachelor’s degree in business administration and management at the University of Arkansas, she has received endorsements throughout her career noting her expertise and resilience to succeed. Previously specializing in upscale weddings and galas, Tiegreen brings a passion for connection and community to her new role as director of sales at Origin Hotel Kansas City, where she is committed to elevating the hotel’s presence and fostering ties within the vibrant Kansas City community.
Dustin Weber, general manager
Dustin Weber joins the management team at Origin Hotel Kansas City with over 27 years of experience in hotel management and national brand support. Known for his positive mindset and enthusiasm for assisting the modern traveler, Weber is dedicated to empowering his staff to overcome any challenges they face. Prior to this role, he held positions at KMG Hotels, glmg | hotels, Hotel Phillips, Hilton, and more. With a passion for leading a dynamic new team, he is eager to drive success and deliver exceptional results to the new property.
